I'm incapable of resting when injured so I'm at the desk again.
@S-Leon Thank you. I still would hate to break a bone, I'd probably just die D: I wasn't sure I would make it, adrenaline wore off real quick which admittedly gave me clarity of thought again.
@OneDanGT Thankfully this wasn't my worst graze, that goes to a few years back the day before my wrist guards showed up. Still burns.
Bruising has showed up and my knees have grown in size from the swelling, would post pics but... well I'll avoid drawing attention to my bare legs. Hard to take pics that don't look like I'm setting up an OnlyFans. Instead have some screensnips from the GoPro that watched me slam into the ground.
Slushy is okay too, dinged the rear pad somehow and scuffed the fins but she's fine. Slowed me down I guess since the VnR lead got tangled and didn't rip out at the XT90.
-
@lia Oh god! Are you fine??
-
@ed_co Both knees are swollen like I have supersized kneecaps and a few grazes. Other than that I'm good :) Rode over an hour home so clearly nothing serious. I'm indestructible now ;)
Still sore AF though
-
@lia I am sorry to hear. Please take care of yourself.
-
Will be away for a bit. I'll check in now and then but I'm not in a good place rn. Not the injury although it's giving me trouble.
-
@Lia Damn, sorry to hear. It was tough to continue scrolling down after that 2nd image. Hope you start feeling better soon. Really wish I had some footage of my last tumble which I still need to post about…part 2.
@OneDanGT After my last two spills and watching my neighbor go down after a rock got lodged between his rail and tire which caused the motor to completely lock up, I’ve been packing what I call a “OW Trauma Kit.” The trauma kit includes a couple large gauze pads, a roll of gauze, 3 large bandages, 3 regular sized bandages, a couple antiseptic cleansing wipes and a couple latex gloves in case I have to give aid to a fellow rider or vice versa. I’m already the “pack mule” being the lightest rider so adding another half pound of supplies won’t be a deal breaker. I got lucky my shop was less than a mile away with a first aid kit when I took the fall that I posted a pic of.
-
@lia What, you got my attention with OnlyFans.... ;D
I'm just going to take that as really a subtle way of saying "needs to shave legs" though. But really... Is the helmet ok? We'd hate it if it had to come off, and you lose your veil of anonymity and confirmation that you do have a face! :P
-
@lia damn i hope you heal quickly. i'm still suspiscious of my wheels after being ejected from the xr from error 16 onto pavement last week. it's one thing to crash because of the terrain; another to crash because the board turned off unexpectedly.... always a challenge to trust again after you get dumped ;P
-
@lia Sorry to hear about your injury, hope you get better fast!
-
@HanahsDax Hope you've been healing up well after the tumble. Having footage is a bonus, helped me reassure myself I did something wrong. Both times the spidey-senses tingled and I ignored them.
Been a rough day, feel a lot worse but able to move still. Lots of creaking, internal bruising etc. Bruised my left tit and pretty sure I re-arranged my insides since my gut hurts when I lean to the right. Still alive though, managed to ride around a little inside too so think I'll be out again soon much to my families frustration.
@Samuraipunch Aha no I'm fully shaven. Can't get a pic that shows the damage that doesn't also just look like I'm baiting "that" kind of attention. Helmet is okay, few scratches but it lives to serve me again and keep me shrouded in mystery.
@Swinefeaster Thank you, I can't imagine the stress of having a board that may throw at any moment. I hope the fix comes soon for your board. As for me this was all my stupid fault plus some assistance from the diabolical maintenance of our pedestrian and cycle infrastructure.
@Lemur Thanks, I think I'll be fine. Just got to hit that peak of pain before things start to settle. As usual it comes as I'm working on a video while on holiday >.>

@lia Get well soon -- that fall looked gnarley!

... in new area, scout it first before trying to get some nice clips incase the terrain falls apart mid shot.

More additions to insight of "Whys" ... was there some semi-decayed leaves, pebbles, waste losing the traction of slick tyre? Speed registered? Wheelslip detected?
Take care! -
@sirgu The terrain was uneven and riddled with noticable dips towards the bottom of the spiralling ramp. Looks like it jolted me while I was lent into the turn. Onewheel does a taildrag and kicks out the back which seems to dislodge me from the pads and into the ground. App was open but didn't see anything unusual.
This was rider error even if terrain resulted in the fall. I should have scouted ahead a bit slower first especially in such a sketchy area. Since it wasn't the board I feel confident getting back out there later today for a brief ride so I'm not missing out on the sunlight. Hurts still especially in my lower gut but it's "bearable" now.

@lia glad your not seriously injured! You should look for a replacement . I saw the cat ear helmet on Ebay last year when I broke mine, shipped from china.
-
@lia Tail dragging/emergency/quick stop is such a terrible method of stopping; that’s over-relied on and too often the default response/reaction. Yes, yes, the community thinks it looks cool… But for when you really need to stop, it’s a terrible option as most cases it sacrifices control. And when done in a less than perfect/smooth environment it makes it easy to get yeeted.
What makes it even worse of an option is if you need to brake so hard that you’re causing the motor to cutout…
-
@b0ardski Thanks :) I'll consider it, would be nice to have a variety in other styles at least. Shame helmets aren't cheap, cheaper than a new noggin though >.>
@Samuraipunch Wasn't an intentional taildrag. Even in emergencies I don't slam the tail and keep it barely off the ground to stop since like you said if the motor cuts out then it makes it worse. I can't tell from the footage if the board cut out and dropped or I accidentally stomped it trying to regain balance.
Edit: No rest for the wicked. I've been out crushing it again. Hurts to walk a little but not to ride lets gooooo~

it looks heavy too.
my cousin blindly backflipped off of a pier in St. James, very mildly fracturing his leg after accidentally landing on the deck of the skiff docked below him... my response whilst shaking my head in disapproval was "a real man would have gone through that boat..." wasn't bad. we laughed, n he walked off the boat and passed those kids. went to doctor day later. no plaster cast. lesson learned.
feel better.

I'm glad your injury doesn't seem as bad as I initially feared. And that you are able to enjoy your holiday as good as possible & productive as a content creator. A very impressive Kitty you are, a heroine to look up. :)

@electric-nici Thank you <3

So after my last fall, documented in this post, I went back to ride the same path again as I always try to do after an "event", LOL. I went through the exact same spot and found there was really no more loose gravel than the rest of the path. I determined that trying to squeeze by the tractor must've freaked me out as I recall the tire being inches away and almost as tall as me on my OW and I allowed the wheel to slip out from under me.
Fast forward to 2 days ago. There is a short bit of dirt trail, not my personal favorite riding, mostly beginner to intermediate, but within my abilities. The entrance to it is off a sidewalk, then down a pretty steep dirt hill maybe 8 feet tall, with trees all around. It turns to the left and you can enter either from the left or from the right. I had only tried it once and I came in from the right so it was basically a straight shot down to the path. This time, I came in from the left side, meaning I'd have to turn left while descending the hill. I think I've been watching too many OW videos and overestimated my skills (or lack thereof). I didn't realize the increase in difficulty trying to turn and descend the hill and ended up a bit too far to the right, scratching up my right arm, shoulder, and neck on some trees and bushes. Nothing major, but I did stay on the board, so there's that, LOL.
Revisited that entrance again today. I came from the right and scooted right down, no problem. Next time, I'll try from the left again without trying to be OneDanBohdi! :D
