@lia Sorry to hear about your injury, hope you get better fast!

@HanahsDax Hope you've been healing up well after the tumble. Having footage is a bonus, helped me reassure myself I did something wrong. Both times the spidey-senses tingled and I ignored them.
Been a rough day, feel a lot worse but able to move still. Lots of creaking, internal bruising etc. Bruised my left tit and pretty sure I re-arranged my insides since my gut hurts when I lean to the right. Still alive though, managed to ride around a little inside too so think I'll be out again soon much to my families frustration.
@Samuraipunch Aha no I'm fully shaven. Can't get a pic that shows the damage that doesn't also just look like I'm baiting "that" kind of attention. Helmet is okay, few scratches but it lives to serve me again and keep me shrouded in mystery.
@Swinefeaster Thank you, I can't imagine the stress of having a board that may throw at any moment. I hope the fix comes soon for your board. As for me this was all my stupid fault plus some assistance from the diabolical maintenance of our pedestrian and cycle infrastructure.
@Lemur Thanks, I think I'll be fine. Just got to hit that peak of pain before things start to settle. As usual it comes as I'm working on a video while on holiday >.>

@lia Get well soon -- that fall looked gnarley!

More additions to insight of "Whys" ... was there some semi-decayed leaves, pebbles, waste losing the traction of slick tyre? Speed registered? Wheelslip detected?
Take care! -
@sirgu The terrain was uneven and riddled with noticable dips towards the bottom of the spiralling ramp. Looks like it jolted me while I was lent into the turn. Onewheel does a taildrag and kicks out the back which seems to dislodge me from the pads and into the ground. App was open but didn't see anything unusual.
This was rider error even if terrain resulted in the fall. I should have scouted ahead a bit slower first especially in such a sketchy area. Since it wasn't the board I feel confident getting back out there later today for a brief ride so I'm not missing out on the sunlight. Hurts still especially in my lower gut but it's "bearable" now.

@lia glad your not seriously injured! You should look for a replacement . I saw the cat ear helmet on Ebay last year when I broke mine, shipped from china.

@lia Tail dragging/emergency/quick stop is such a terrible method of stopping; that’s over-relied on and too often the default response/reaction. Yes, yes, the community thinks it looks cool… But for when you really need to stop, it’s a terrible option as most cases it sacrifices control. And when done in a less than perfect/smooth environment it makes it easy to get yeeted.
What makes it even worse of an option is if you need to brake so hard that you’re causing the motor to cutout…
-
@b0ardski Thanks :) I'll consider it, would be nice to have a variety in other styles at least. Shame helmets aren't cheap, cheaper than a new noggin though >.>
@Samuraipunch Wasn't an intentional taildrag. Even in emergencies I don't slam the tail and keep it barely off the ground to stop since like you said if the motor cuts out then it makes it worse. I can't tell from the footage if the board cut out and dropped or I accidentally stomped it trying to regain balance.
Edit: No rest for the wicked. I've been out crushing it again. Hurts to walk a little but not to ride lets gooooo~

it looks heavy too.
my cousin blindly backflipped off of a pier in St. James, very mildly fracturing his leg after accidentally landing on the deck of the skiff docked below him... my response whilst shaking my head in disapproval was "a real man would have gone through that boat..." wasn't bad. we laughed, n he walked off the boat and passed those kids. went to doctor day later. no plaster cast. lesson learned.
feel better.

I'm glad your injury doesn't seem as bad as I initially feared. And that you are able to enjoy your holiday as good as possible & productive as a content creator. A very impressive Kitty you are, a heroine to look up. :)

@electric-nici Thank you <3

So after my last fall, documented in this post, I went back to ride the same path again as I always try to do after an "event", LOL. I went through the exact same spot and found there was really no more loose gravel than the rest of the path. I determined that trying to squeeze by the tractor must've freaked me out as I recall the tire being inches away and almost as tall as me on my OW and I allowed the wheel to slip out from under me.
Fast forward to 2 days ago. There is a short bit of dirt trail, not my personal favorite riding, mostly beginner to intermediate, but within my abilities. The entrance to it is off a sidewalk, then down a pretty steep dirt hill maybe 8 feet tall, with trees all around. It turns to the left and you can enter either from the left or from the right. I had only tried it once and I came in from the right so it was basically a straight shot down to the path. This time, I came in from the left side, meaning I'd have to turn left while descending the hill. I think I've been watching too many OW videos and overestimated my skills (or lack thereof). I didn't realize the increase in difficulty trying to turn and descend the hill and ended up a bit too far to the right, scratching up my right arm, shoulder, and neck on some trees and bushes. Nothing major, but I did stay on the board, so there's that, LOL.
Revisited that entrance again today. I came from the right and scooted right down, no problem. Next time, I'll try from the left again without trying to be OneDanBohdi! :D

but I did stay on the board
Nailed it as far as I'm concerned then. Congrats on staying on while tanking the scrapes. Hope those heal up well :)
I'm here to see some "OneDanBohdi" if you do ever give it a go ;) Be safe though x

Rider Down!
I'm posting my crash today in the Whys topic because I know exactly why I fell. :D
Was doing my normal daily ride along the American River Parkway paved path, getting close to my turnaround point, a nice gravel road along some RR tracks. About 1/4 mile before I get there, there are 2 major lumps in the pavement from tree roots. Normally, I either go in the left lane if no one is coming or I slow down. With the trees all losing their leaves, there I was just gazing off across the field to see if I could see the gravel road I was heading to from where I was. Next thing I know, I'm hitting the first lump (the larger one) at 19 mph! As my feet left the board, my brain decided there was no longer a board under me to control, so maybe start running. I think I got a step or two in before I started going down. I recall watching my board tumbling down the pavement in front of me and thinking "no outstretched arms!". Tucking in my arms a bit, my forearms took the brunt of the fall, just below my elbows. I didn't roll, but came to a pretty quick stop.
My fingers went down as I slowed down and while they hurt for a couple minutes, they have no scrapes at all. My outer sweatshirt got some holes, but the inner one has almost no damage. My left elbow has a small 1/2" scrape, but my right elbow has a long 3" scrape that will take a while to heal. I'm not sure how my arms got scraped up when my sweatshirt has no holes, but they did. Left knee is fine, right one has very minor scrapes. Neither helmet nor face hit the ground. All in all, for a full speed crash on pavement, I surprisingly sustained pretty minor damage. The OneDanGT has a second fender scar.
Of course, being almost at the turnaround point in my ride, I had to ride the full distance back home. I rested up on the side of the parkway for 5 minutes or so and rode home at almost full speed, knowing I was fully responsible for my fall.
PSA: Even if you're on a comfortable path that you've ridden hundreds of times, pay attention and keep your eyes on the road!
-
@onedangt -- Oh my! My body feels your fall in empathy! From my late summer fall I, too, had what I think was a rug burn on my leading arm near my elbow -- with no hole in several layers of long sleeves. Since then I have added more elbow gear to my Onewheeling. And you are right about watching familiar trails -- I tend to let my mind wander some taking in the ever-changing autumn, and in consequence running over some pavement knobs and roots I would normally avoid.
-
@onedangt Glad to hear you managed to get out of that one mostly unscathed. Can relate to riding home at a turnaround point after a fall. Rest up and hopefully the scrapes heal nicely :)
RIP outer sweatshirt though, it's sacrifice was not in vain.

mostly unscathed
It's the next day and I'm feeling some aches and pains in my right hip and upper arm, but nothing drastic. Agreed, for a 19mph crash, the injuries were certainly minor. Sucks getting old! :D

Why did it nosedive? I wasn't going that fast, but I did try to accelerate quite hard. Did I overload it? Right in front of somebody too. Facepalm
Edit: clean, dry and smooth tarmac. Battery about 65%. -
@theadman -- Hard acceleration can do it.
-
@s-leon I'm hoping it was my fault, not a problem with the board, because then I can learn from it and not do it again.
