22 hours later and I have me a mean looking tire to go with the little guy.
Brava! Looks awesome. How soon till I can buy one on Amazon?
@chippmover
Congratulations on joining the Onewheel community. You have made a fine choice.
Just ease into it, no heroics, the skill set will improve with time on the board.
I started riding at 68 years of age, and am currently 70. I ride every day, and enjoy every mile.
Be safe my friend!
Doug
@lia I recall a video where Jeff does say that the 5" hub on the street is more squishy feeling, especially if you dial down the pressure for trails. The Pioneer is supposed to be a great off road tire and "ok" on street, but again, worse so on the street with lower pressure. Due to my riding mostly street, I've decided the 5" hub is not for me, but "might" be interested in a 6". :)
I have the GOAT on my GT and the Thundercat on my GTS, but those are both 6.5" AND I ride 90% street, so not a great comparison as I am fully 10% body weight on tire pressure. What I do love about the Thundercat over the GOAT though is that I never feel a transition to the edge, it's just perfectly smooth, like you're riding on a ball, but then no squirrely-ness in the center. The GOAT has an, ever so slight, transition, so I'm definitely not disappointed. Both have really good tread though, which really helps side to side traction on pavement and trails.
You should've visited Sacramento when you were here earlier this year, I could've brought you over to meet Jeff and the TFL guys and you could've tried out all kinds of boards, hubs, tires, VESCs, etc! Next time maybe you can fit that into your plans. :D
@chippmover Great to hear you decided to pull the trigger. I was 59 in 2017 when I got my first board, the Onewheel +. Unlike you, I had plenty of boarding experience: as a kid on skateboards and an adult on snowboards. I've seen plenty of people with little to no board experience learn to ride, so don't let that stop you. I'm currently on my 5th board, the GTS, and have ridden over 17,000 miles on all my boards combined. The best advice is to be sure to gear up, as you will fall, and at our age that's never fun, LOL.
If you're patient and respect the board, hopefully you'll learn to love it as a daily adventure . . . I know I have!
@biell It was very much a theoretical inquiry - inspired by waves!

Thankfully this isn't considered a flagship board so I'm safe still making a tiny GTS.
I'd have ripped around the Bellagio lobby till they chased me down and ordered me to stop! Was very interested in popping over to that place nearby to rent one last time. Needs to be plane friendly and TSA-approved.
