GT production update January 14/ 2022

@sirgu What… damn that is terrifying!
I feel like FM managed to anger the production gods. In making a board harder to repair to save their image on faulty mods they in turn created a single wheeled reincarnation of Christine thats evidently out for blood.I joked to Float Carve Ride I’ll be keeping mine on a lead but I think I might now.
In the cases I’ve seen or heard of these have been irregular dismounts. Float Carve Ride did a quickstop and Zack here fell off while it was moving. It sounds like the only way to really prevent this is a standard heel/toe lift to force it to disengage before the tail drops. That being said it won’t do anything for Zack’s case nor is it acceptable to fear a runaway board.

LOL, I don't get that reference.
But yeah,
... I haven't spotted anyone to claim failed heel-lift dismount attempt so far. (Which is the remaining favour to front concave pad & sensors not to be the case of particular ghosting issue.)I'd really loved to see some GT owner to do the test as following:
1.) Go for a steady LONG ride in equal/below 33°F/0°C temps.
2.) With stubborn cramped ankles ride straight off the 5+miles/8+km WITHOUT ever heel-lifting / off-dropping / dismounting of any kind.
3.) Then moderately breaking down to 0 mph/kmh and attempt heel-lift straight on spot.
-If the reaction "wtf?!..it's not dismounting!" is not present, then the front pad & pressure-sensors will be forgiven really. Thus leading us to the guess, the demon lies in board electronics, accelerometer etc ... because, yes, all of them have been irregular dismounts / power-stops (with board roughly angeled while tire momentary wheelslippin' on the ground).

Film about a car that's possessed and hunts people.
I feel the ghosting is much like when someone fails a griptape change and causes at least one sensor to stick active. Guessing in the cold the pad might shrink a little and keep a side active because it doesn't deform back as quick.
It could also be due to the new sensors, which if that's the case is pretty bad considering similar sensors have been used in the DIY scene without much issue even on kush and concave pads.

@lia Possible problem with GT hall senor wires.
While I had the Gt stator removed to do the XR rim conversion, I noticed the hall sensor wires are really close to the end plate, which is part of the wheel and spins, possibly damaging them.
Compared to the XR stator the hall wires are sheathed and glued down, very poor workmanship on the GT.
I tied mine down with braided fishing line and super glued the knot. -
@lemur That's a little concerning. I wonder if that was an assembly error or the process changed and this is the "new normal".

@notsure Im afraid when this kinda news will catch the attention of our anti-pev politicians (casically all of em are) there's gonna be an active hunt on all OW users.
They're basically waiting for this kinda news to prove their point... -
@notsure I saw this vid, was that posi'd???
Posi-ing a GT under current circumstances if a deathwish, not for the rider but some poor sod downwind.I have a few spare footpads, I may just find a way to use one of those instead. Was considering having my board on a rope for a while but thinking back to the days of owning a rottweiler and having it drag me round a field I may rethink attaching myself to 750w of feral electronics.

i dont know actually but i reckon that dent n those children screaming "omg im so glad no one got hurt" was for good reason lol. its a completely new product. i think it may not be safe to treat it like an XR just yet. hopefully its just another fluke.
-
@notsure At this rate I'll be treating it like a domesticated yet badly trained grizzly bear xD.
I assume the footpad connector is the same as the Pint. I might rig up a little testbed to put my footpad on and see how it reacts to various conditions like temperature, dismount and semi-dismount methods. I do have to get my hands on it first though.
At least this way I don't have to try it on a live environment where an actual failstate results in a single wheeled freight train hauling ass whichever way I left it.

@lia I was thinking of a leash, but don't know if the GT would shut off if the board is tipped over on it's side. Our vesc boards can be programed to shut off anywhere from 0 to 90 degrees.
I'm also thinking of a wood or printed front footpad with less concave and using fsr 406 sensors. Those sensors have been performing flawlessly in my vescs and XR.
Fm advises to use simple stop or heel lift for now, but that sucks. -
I still have a couple of weeks before I get home to my GT, but I'm thinking I'll attach a leash to the rail or mag handle and hold it in my hand. When dismounting normally, I'll be ready to stop it as the force won't be TOO strong as it starts to take off. If I fall, at least I have a chance of knocking it over and maybe grab it before it figures out how to get away from me. I can also let go if it's just too much force, but I'd hope it doesn't come to that. Agree with @lia, I don't want it yanking me along with it, so I'm not gonna attach it to my ankle, LOL.

Just had a chat with local (Netherlands) OW dealer. He's not expecting GT until May?! Did anyone in Europe receive a GT yet?
He mentioned "supply chain issues"..
-
@maciak None that I'm aware of. FM keep pushing mine back 1-2 days each time mine ticks down shopping the next day.
Kinda stopped checking unless anyone asks me tbh, just going to wait D: -
-
@maciak Oh no, I saw this earlier when things were calmer...yiiikes.
I've sent in some doots to try counter the brainrot <3

@lia Pissed off lotsa people..

-
@lia Yea gets pretty awkward there, thanks;) I ve spoken to 2 independent major dealers and both gave me same info. They dont want any unit of the first 2 batches and dont take preorders. They were told that 3rd batch will have different HW. So they expect that in June. A 3rd dealer was more reserved and avoids the issue at all cost. But that one still advertises March/April on his site while he told me expecting 1st units in May....(edit: and this one took lotsa preorders;)
-
@maciak That makes sense, retailers don't want to hold onto potential dead stock or worse something the customer wants a refund for when it goes wrong.
I do wonder if FM will add a small bonus for these delayed orders as a good will gesture. Or maybe send us something in the meantime.
