@lemur I don't blame you, I was eager to crack mine open after my first ride but now I'm reconsidering it.

As much as I love to tinker I'm in no position to be a canary for the next potential FM boobytrap.

That said once things settle a little I'll probably build up the courage to pop it open.

@lia It's an expensive board to be messing around with right now especially with so many unknowns . Having said that, I'm trying to source a Torx plus 45 for the rails. Haha.

No way they used a 45??? My set only goes up to 40 D:

@lemur I think Bob Nicolson took apart his GT but never unplugged the battery or bms, but the red light of death came on when he tried to power it up later, although he managed to get to work later.
Maybe he never hooked up the motor when he powered it up and maybe the controller goes through a systems check before giving the go ahead. I know cars and bikes do that.

@lemur Possibly, I was surprised when doing diagnostics on my XR that you can get aways with just the controller, BMS and battery to load into an active state. Sort of thought the lack of motor would throw an error, maybe that's what they've done here.

Do we have any confirmed reports of the GT throwing specific error codes anymore at all actually? I'm curious if they kept that since it's the only way we know what to look for when fault finding currently.

@lemur Are we sure they used a 45? If so, you want to get an ip45 (Torx Plus), not a T45 (standard Torx). I don't get my GT until Wednesday (hopefully), so I can't guarantee this work, but if you say it is a 45, then it will:

                https://www.mcmaster.com/54305A33

You will also need an adapter for your ratchet. Note that is a 5/16" hex on the bottom. Once you break it loose, a T45 should be fine:

                https://www.mcmaster.com/6963A26

If you saw the picture of the TFL slick GT with the Life Savers on, you will notice they totally jacked up the bolt. My guess is they were using a T40 when an ip45 was needed. I am also wondering if FM is using loctite red.

@biell It's definitely a Torx plus, I can get one with 3/8 " drive from our Snapon dealer at a price of a complete set of a off brand. I don't want to mark up the bolts in case of warranty. I broke a couple of cheap bits on Pint rail bolts until I got a Snapon Torx.

@lemur Oh I get it now, was so confused at first but this makes sense. Instead of modifying the GT stator by shaving off that extended lip you're just shimming the hub plate to it can sit on the extended lip.

That is so clever, I'd have never thought to do it that way! This is by far the best and least destructive method and I love it.

Call me stupid, but I still don't understand the idea...

@ed_co It does get confusing, but the new Onewheel GT has a 6.5 inch rim and tires are proprietary which you cannot buy from OW. You have to send the GT in to get a tire changed.
This adapter allows the 6 inch rim from a XR to be fitted to the GT and allows many styles of common 6 inch go kart tires from many sources.

I am well aware about the size change from XR to GT. But I don't understand the solution. Are you planning to put the GT rotor inside the XR stator assuming all the magnets/space/configuration will be the same on both?

@ed_co The other way around, GT stator in a XR rotor (rim).

@ed_co Picking up an expensive Snapon torx plus 45 right now to take the GT axle bolts off. One Snapon socket is the same price as a set of OTC TP sockets. I disconnected the GT motor , footpad cables, reconnected them and the board is still good.

@ed_co Did the conversion today, I have to make another shim as the present one is a little too thin, leaving too little axle endplay. It runs ,but can't upload a video. IMG_5261-1.jpg IMG_5260-1.jpg drawing.jpg

For a vid I'd recommend uploading to Youtube and linking it here if you can.

Would love to see this working. Barely a week after launch and the community is undoing these roadblocks.
