Onewheel Neighbors
-
@HanahsDax That makes sense. Thank you so much!
If your legendary neighbor would be in this forum, there's so much more I'd inquire. -
I was definitely getting “Shreddy Kruger” vibes from my neighbor’s shadow the other day when we poached the downhill bike park before they officially opened. -
@hanahsdax so funny -- we have a friend who wears those exact gloves when we meet to work on things for our Burning Man camp, and we call them "the Korean Serial Killer Gloves."
haha -
My Onewheel neighbor young man Matthew was out this evening on his Onewheel, walking his dog Graham on the Greenway, and stopped to talk for a few minutes. While we were talking Matthew was balancing on his Plus, monitoring his dog, and watching for Greenway traffic; I commented on the adeptness of his ankles. He smiled and said low tire pressure with the stock Vega helps for the low speed maneuvering. He also waxed enthusiastic about riding his Plus everywhere on his family's property: Visiting his parent's house, taking big, full trash cans out to collection, going to do this job or that -- the Onewheel is so versatile for everything! With his enthusiasm spilling over, I invited him to look here at the OWForum.

Going down! With a Rainier in hand. Save the beer!
-
@hanahsdax -- I trust he must have been okay, but oh my, it looks rough there, Onewheeling down the trail stairs.
At a summer family party here on the farm, letting folks try the electric bikes and Onewheel, one in particular was a natural rider and very much interested in Onewheeling!
-
@s-leon Luckily that opening section of Scrubber is slow going so he was able to make a graceful fall. While I can’t convince him to wear a helmet (at 60+ years old there’s no need to preach to him the importance) he always wears his Korean serial killer gloves, knee pads, hip pads and a children’s soccer knee and shin guard as a makeshift elbow and forearm armor on his lead arm.

Lately I’ve been riding with an EUC rider that lives down the road. I snapped this photo of him yesterday evening as we finished a trail ride and were headed home.
-
@hanahsdax Road marking colors are notorious for having different kind of grip at some speeds. - Was he challenging himself with holding that line after trail riding with you?
-
@sirgu I actually suggested it for the photo op. Thought it would give the picture more character.
-
EUC's don't appeal to me much but if I had one, that's EXACTLY what I'd be doing with it lol. I love little challenges like that. Great pic!
-
@hanahsdax It came out great, loving how much yellow is in the foliage. It feels like a painting almost.
How are the rides with someone on an EUC? Vastly different from riding with other OW'ers or mostly similar in getting around.
-
@hanahsdax -- Beautifully composed photo! The EUC is PERFECTLY centered between the yellow road lines. Besides the lucious-looking golden aspens I especially like the fresh snow on the cloud-crowned mountaintops.
-
Ice everywhere on the standing waters alongside the Greenway even in the brilliant winter sunshine today, who should I see out but Matthew in winter parka with hood up, riding his Onewheel Plus, walking his dog. He waved as we passed and with a loud voice commented, "It's a great day for a ride!"
-
Onewheeling on the Greenway today: Two sled dogs pulling a person in a wheelchair -- for miles! On the way out I passed by, smiled and waved, and on the way back I overtook them, "...Passing Right!" Hands on the wheels may be braking the dogs' enthusiasm to go fast... Actually, too, walking at the Lakeshore Reservation in December my sister and I saw a person in a pony cart pulled by sled dogs -- hmmm... this might be a trend. -
Living in Sacramento, about a mile from The Float Life headquarters, I occasionally run into the riders when I'm out on my OneWheel. Today, I was walking my dog and saw a truck with Float stickers on it and out popped Bodhi, Kyle, and Allie on their way to breakfast. Shook their hands and had a short chat with them about how great it is to see them riding all my favorite paths, albeit WAY more skilled than I could ever imagine myself being.
I told Allie how impressed I was that she actually ran that last RFTL run with her injured arm. She said once the adrenaline from the race wore off, she was really hurting the next day. We all know that feeling!
I met Jeff McCosker and his girlfriend, now wife, Raequel, back in 2017 when we both rolled up to a local coffee shop on our +s and have watched their little company grow over the years since then. TFL is a great company with great products and excellent people!

Well, I guess I should barge into the conversation then.
In my college (Tarleton State), there's a lot of electric skateboards and electric scooters, though I'm one out of two people on campus with a Onewheel. I met the other guy last semester on his frost-white pint. I haven't seen him since so he probably transferred, sold the Onewheel or graduated early.
There was another who actually got me hooked onto the Onewheel, and his name was Daniel. He's a pretty cool guy that got a Pint at the beginning of the school year. It was light blue with a pink fender that had that truck bed liner on it. Stock everything, and when I got it, he let everyone try it out. I started to ride it quite a bit, and got to the point where I had more control over it than he did in terms of riding capabilities, though I got worried that I was annoying him with it. Got my XR over Thanksgiving break last semester and I have not regretted it since!
However, back at home in Dallas, there is a large Onewheel community. There's a group of people that ride quite a bit and I'm in their facebook group. I don't have a lot of pictures but there's a bunch of people who ride some modified boards. At least one guy has a VESC and goes some neat tricks, and there's another who's got a GTR with custom everything.
I'm going back home next weekend because my grandma, my mom and I are having out birthdays around that time! (Grandma is on the 18th, Moms on the 19th and I'm on the 20th!)
I'll try and go on a group ride over the weekend and get some pictures with them.
On another note, off topic but has anyone had their upgraded pint handle snap? Mine did.

@onedangt I love how you get to see them out and about a few times, must be nice to get to chill with them from time to time.
When I get to move to the US you bet me and @cheppy44 are making a roadtrip to come see you all in your respective states at some point. Always wanted to swing by TFL (among other places) and see what's up without falling on my bum trying to do anything other than going forwards lol.
-
@lia That's funny, cuz I told them I love their videos riding all of the paths I take, but that I can't even ride backwards, much less do any tricks like they do. :D
-
@lia Same! I'd love to stop by and say hi to TFL, however shipping the Onewheel XR battery (stock) is a hasstle. Got off the phone with UPS literaly five minutes ago and they told me I need to go talk to someone who's got "hazmat certification" and ship it through them, FYI
(My mom wants to take me to LA for spring break and I want to bring my Onewheel with me, but I know I can't bring the batttery on the plane. I'd rent one but I'd probably thrash the hell out of it with how I ride my onewheel and get a fine from the renters.) {apologies for de-railing topic}
