      UPDATE 2:

Figured out my footpad was busted. I'm out 150 but it means I have a working board now.

Board rides great, with a top speed of around 22-23 MPH. O figured out the hard way that certain tunes affect the top speed, so if your having trouble pushing 20 with a high duty cycle, check your tune.

Also, my rails are having stripped screw holes. I don't want to drill holes into my rails, so I got some 10-32 nuts and adhered them to the inside of the rail to act as a new set of threads.

      Guess who's back!
so my parents bought me a 18S2P battery from the BoardGarage that runs off of 50s cells. They also got my an accompanying charger and thr XLITE-V3.

Spent all day setting it up, and it works!... after I accidentally plugged it into the stock harnesses reverse polarized connector. Had to replace the XT-60 on both the battery and the harness

gonna rip her around the neighborhood this morning, I'm excited

    • RE: In The Wild, Photo Share (If Possible To Capture).... Keep Your OneWheel In The Shot If You Can.

      Time for a Onewheel update!

      alt text
(The school doesn't lock the gate to the track, so I ususally go there at night to ride around. The ground on the track makes my tire act weird, but it is fun acting like your racing other people!)

The onewheel XR has been treating me well so far! It has turned from a cool toy to a tool in my life. My bike I have is good for getting to walmart and such, but bad for getting to classes due to it's footprint and how people congest both the sidewalks and the roads (No, seriously. People just walk in the middle of the street. It's dumb.) and the onewheel, with a massive speed reduction lets me weave past people if I have enough space.

The onewheel currently has stock everything except bumpers, tire (provided by @OneDanGT (Thanks man!)) and rear footpad. Next on the list is life savers for my rims because I ride this thing like a psycho at night or when there's lots of space and I'm going to start to learn tricks. The badger provided by @S-Leon (thanks man!) will be installed this week as well. I will try to design clips to attatch the LED strip to it.

Down the road, I will look into a battery upgrade, and finally either new rails or maybe even a VESC. After that, I'll water proof the board and I should be done with it for a long while!

Also, it's icing outside so that is going to severely limit my riding time. Ice isn't as hard as I thought, but braking with the bumper causes the onewheel to slide, and turning sometimes feels wack.

      Well, I'm still alive!....
      somehow

So, how is my board doing?
Well, actually! I haven't had many issues with it, and it's been fine. I re-did the o-rings on the axle, and I've done some small tweaking to the foot hooks. Thanks and shoutout to VOW for the free foothook design, and Onewheel Parts for hooking me up with their quickies, those things are indestructible.

Since last July, I've had to replace my footpad sensor twice. Great, and I had to buy one for a higher price from someone else since StokedStock is no longer with us.
I am now considering either a magnetic-style footpad, or using one of those pressure sensors for car seats
      755dcde4-1c46-4c86-ab43-61a56a8adf7a-image.png
      (cursed)

Apparently, the VESC peeps engineered a way to use a little magnet that you tie to your ankle as a way to activate and deactivate your footpad. It uses a mangetic sensor, and it's pretty neato
To dwell on this further later

Troque Box is holding up, but i may need to 3D print a new battery box or shell out the cash for the torque box 2

New tire too. The Thundercat didn't last as long as the previous tires, the sidewall probably gave out around mid-feb, lasting about 7-ish months before it would loose air. By the time I decided i was done re-airing the tire every few days, it was mid-june and the tire would go flat over the course of a 90 minute lecture.
      6cf05611-0b05-4689-a09e-ad1ff232a66f-image.png

I am going to replace the battery soon. 18s2p would be the easy and sensible route, but since I'm going to college near a major city now, I can actually go to group rides weekly!
THESE PEOPLE ARE FAST AND CRAZY AND I CAN BARELY KEEP UP
      but they are pretty cool
also I've found that while I have mellowed out in the past year or two and I'm not trying to hit 80-80 duty cycle, I'd like some more headroom. 26s1p was on the table for a bit because of my 120V Ennoid, but I was told that I'd have to charge my board no more than 4.09V, nullifying the need for the battery. 24s2p split pack scares the hell out of me (My old ride group had a couple split pack issues and one fire from one), and 24s2p with 18650 using a SuperSpeed Box would be VERY expensive, and with that kind of money, I'd already be going for the fifth option. Fourth Option was a 24s1P pack made for PintV, but my gut didn't like that one.
      Fifth option?

I may have gone a little insane since I last spoke here
      Uhm..
I decided after talking with some engineering buddies I know and people who can handle money better than I can that spending more money now on a much better setup is worth it in the long term.
I am going to have to get a 150V Ennoid. I was told to contact Ennoid about seeing what can be done about my 120V, but apparently he's on vacation until next week, so I'll have to wait.

30S1P on RS50 should give me similar range as my ME4T pack, but an exponentially more amount of the pucker factor in terms of raw power.
I'm still in shock that I'm even ORDERING a 30s1p pack, let alone going to install one.

      So, yay
Probably time to start looking at Leatt gear and to probably get life insurance.

      final notes?

Using the quickies from OneWheelParts, I'm designing a clip that bolts onto the unused holes so I can carry around the board like a duffel bag. Supposed to be a one day print, but my printer (Now a heavily modified SV08 which could honestly have it's own form post) is tempermental about ASA.

    • RE: 63 YO new pint X

@divouneh The pintX should be able to do 20. It's using the same voltage as the XR, which I've inched up to 23, 24 mph. However, I'm about 140-150lbs (depending on what the semester is looking like)

You should check your tire PSI and see if it's gotten a little low. Also, don't attempt going fast on windy days. Outside of your board, the biggest two things that affect speed is weight and wind resistance. (I think)

Board is holding up well. Thought I would run through some things I've discovered and came up with while working on this board, and tinkering with it.

First- absolutely do not put off any maintenance or work on the board longer than needed. Will get back to this later.

I don't have any pictures, but I managed to get access to a makerspace at my new college, which is amazing. The parents aren't as happy that I've now got a place to go work on my projects that has A/C, access to 3D printers, CNC, waterjet and laser cutters. I've signed up to get training on the CNC, waterjet and laser cutters so I can gain some new skills and expand on what I can do next. I have a few projects I want to embark on once I get settled in and see how this semester goes. (Stepper-Motor powered guitar anyone?(Learned that Bambu A1 printers generate their boops and beeps via motor vibration, I'm now obsessed with playing music out of my printer. Roommates might hate me now))

I got the chance to put on some new heatshrink over the cable harness that runs from the battery to the controller. The hard part was running the new heat shrink over all of the cables. I started out with the largest wires, then pulled through the smaller ones using a length of string tied to the ends of a set of wires through the heat shrink. Also discovered that I had somehow lost length on the XT-60 even though I didn't cut it (black magic I guess). Gonna make a two inch extension using some length of wire and a female/male set of XT-60s so the main battery power leads aren't any tension. Remember to put the cable gland on before you put your XT-60 on or else it'll be trouble.

Did discover that if you leave neopixels powered but without data plugged into an ESP32, interference from the motor will cause the LEDs to flip out. Plugging in the data from the LEDs into the ESP32 negated this, and there is no reported issues so far. Will let the smart people figure this one out.

Old wiring harness heatshink wasn't made for the length of BTG, so I barely had any cable gland on the meat of the heat shrink, making for some very poor sealing. Waiting on the new MK8 Ennoid to come in, which has 120V FETs to allow for 20-22S shennanigans once I finally figure out how to properly route and manage wires. Thinking of using some zip-ties and hot glue to work this, and some pre-planning.

Ordered stainless steel m3 screws to replace the ones in my battery box which have finally stripped out. (I hate tiny torx for a reason. I hate tiny screws for a reason.)
Need to look at sealing the front and battery box, though I want to do this after I'm absolutely sure my board is 100 percent wroking. Found a couple trails near the college that have some trecherous terrain I could totally throw the board down to stress test it.

Thinking back on the Hall sensor swap and VESC Tools Hall Analysis tool, I think I may have a reason as to why hall analysis was showing very wacky hall readings. It could be due to the fact that BLE isn't stable and may cause data to be intermitently dropped, leading to data being lost during trasmission. Could be the Vesc software itself on my iPad or computer being generally pretty jank and having some issues that cannot be diagnosed. It could be the VESC itself is old and is just showing it's age. Yes, I'm blaming my tools for a problem I can't solve, but it's the only thing I could think of outside of user error.

      Off-topic time:
I went to San Japan over Labor Day Weekend. It's not my normal crowd, but it was fun. Sucked going alone, but it was genuine fun to see people and get to meet people who seemed to be important. Used my board to get to and from the convention between the convention center and my hotel. Got caught in the rain saturday night on the way back, and that soured my mood for a moment.

Anyways, they had a car meetup thing in one of the halls where they had a bunch of crazy cars with anime/waifu wraps, similar to how Warstik was back in 2024, but better. It made me want to do it again, but Craft and Ride is dead and even if they weren't, I don't wanna drop the money on rail gaurds that wouldn't be removable or easy to protect. Came up with the idea there to have removable rail guards using the screw holes found in stock XR rails for those rail clips. BTG WTF rails don't have these, but they can be added with the help of a drill and tap set. Could have a set of screw holes, two on each half of the rail, one on top and one on bottom. You'd have a bit of the rail guard wrap over the rail and would be bolted in place to hold them on. Can't really prototype without proper training on a laser cutter or CNC, but it doesn't mean I can't make ideas. Now I just have to find a way to print on acrylic on the cheap.
