Onewheel Neighbors
-
Hmmm... A different kind of neighbor. Here is the summertime story: With Ruth Anne's car in for repair, I gave her mine to use. And while Ruth Anne was out and about, I headed out to Onewheel our local rural roads -- instead of the Greenway Trail I usually drive four miles to ride.
At the end of our long driveway I looked for traffic, and seeing a few motorcycles fairly far in the distance I Onewheeled across the road and picked up speed. They must have seen me cross in Onewheel silhouette, because one of these young guys clearly must have thought, "Onewheeling! I'll show this guy one-wheeling!"
And a moment later he roared past me, front wheel high in the air, standing on one foot-peg -- in a stance like he was clutching the neck of a thundering racehorse, weaving the machine back and forth -- "carving" -- too!
A surprise it was to me! And I hoped this young man's future widow-to-be will be well-versed well ahead of time of his desire for displaying foolishly risky and potentially deadly behaviors!

I’ve held on to this pic for awhile (taken October 24, 2021) of my neighbor who is the one who introduced me to the Onewheel. He loaned me his Plus about 4 years ago to the day and I rode the thing until I had to carry it home about a half of a mile. After that initial intro I was immediately convinced I needed one so I ordered the XR. He’s in his mid-60’s and shreds with the best of us local riders and we’ve had many adventures together.

@hanahsdax great photo! he's an inspiration.

An indication of our Northeast Ohio Amish neighbors. -
Q to @HanahsDax or anyone that knows the field :
Sorry for off-topic input yet again, but it's been haunting me and can't help but asking away nowhere better than here.
-What is this Hoosier tire make/model???
As far as I know .. the most of (large) Hoosier treaded are with non-directional diamond-shape patterns. Some smaller ones .. Pint, Pint X and Growler oriented 10.5" Hoosiers do have directional V-shape patterns.
But this one appears to be large one paired with og Plus rails? -
@sirgu It is the 7.1 Hoosier Super Kart Tire designated for the rear . Everything except the rails is an XR. He said in order to fit the 7.1, he modified the rails and used an old set of Plus rails. He claims he once sent a Plus with the same set up back to FM for repair and they made him pay for a new set of rails claiming his modification made the board unsafe. Here is a pic of the tire.

@HanahsDax That makes sense. Thank you so much!
If your legendary neighbor would be in this forum, there's so much more I'd inquire. -
I was definitely getting “Shreddy Kruger” vibes from my neighbor’s shadow the other day when we poached the downhill bike park before they officially opened. -
@hanahsdax so funny -- we have a friend who wears those exact gloves when we meet to work on things for our Burning Man camp, and we call them "the Korean Serial Killer Gloves."

My Onewheel neighbor young man Matthew was out this evening on his Onewheel, walking his dog Graham on the Greenway, and stopped to talk for a few minutes. While we were talking Matthew was balancing on his Plus, monitoring his dog, and watching for Greenway traffic; I commented on the adeptness of his ankles. He smiled and said low tire pressure with the stock Vega helps for the low speed maneuvering. He also waxed enthusiastic about riding his Plus everywhere on his family's property: Visiting his parent's house, taking big, full trash cans out to collection, going to do this job or that -- the Onewheel is so versatile for everything! With his enthusiasm spilling over, I invited him to look here at the OWForum.

Going down! With a Rainier in hand. Save the beer!
-
@hanahsdax -- I trust he must have been okay, but oh my, it looks rough there, Onewheeling down the trail stairs.
At a summer family party here on the farm, letting folks try the electric bikes and Onewheel, one in particular was a natural rider and very much interested in Onewheeling!
-
@s-leon Luckily that opening section of Scrubber is slow going so he was able to make a graceful fall. While I can’t convince him to wear a helmet (at 60+ years old there’s no need to preach to him the importance) he always wears his Korean serial killer gloves, knee pads, hip pads and a children’s soccer knee and shin guard as a makeshift elbow and forearm armor on his lead arm.

Lately I’ve been riding with an EUC rider that lives down the road. I snapped this photo of him yesterday evening as we finished a trail ride and were headed home.
-
@hanahsdax Road marking colors are notorious for having different kind of grip at some speeds. - Was he challenging himself with holding that line after trail riding with you?
-
@sirgu I actually suggested it for the photo op. Thought it would give the picture more character.
-
EUC's don't appeal to me much but if I had one, that's EXACTLY what I'd be doing with it lol. I love little challenges like that. Great pic!
-
@hanahsdax It came out great, loving how much yellow is in the foliage. It feels like a painting almost.
How are the rides with someone on an EUC? Vastly different from riding with other OW'ers or mostly similar in getting around.
-
@hanahsdax -- Beautifully composed photo! The EUC is PERFECTLY centered between the yellow road lines. Besides the lucious-looking golden aspens I especially like the fresh snow on the cloud-crowned mountaintops.
