Hacks & Odds

@s-leon Oh I know that you mean now. Google just kept showing me vape-pens.
Eager to hear how your BadgerStaff works out. Assuming you haven't already will you later style it up to look a certain way or let the utility of the creation be what guides the look alone.
-
@Lia --The BadgerStaff caught a lot of air in the test ride -- wind resistance was surprisingly high. On an angle, resting on my trailing toe, seemed to work okay -- still not as satisfying as I would like.
Too, I prefer the richer informational LED display of the BadgerSense over the meager display of the BadgerSight HUD. Your Photoshop idea of getting that LED strip up and easily visible is what I would like. To do that would need a three pin IP65? waterproof cable extension.
-
@s-leon Glad to hear it went well if not entirely satisfying.
For a cable extension if you're looking to DIY one I've used connectors like these before since they're small and easy to disconnect.

I'm thinking "light saber" . . . green, then yellow, then red with the impending dark side!

@notsure -- Actually, fairly similar to your shoe mock-up and to OneDanGT's light saber idea, the best for me so far has been attaching the BadgerSense LED strip to the rail, just ahead of the charge port, like a probe sticking out into the air. To accomplish the mount, I taped a scrap piece of rigid foam on the rail for a flat surface, then strapped the LED strip in place with the strap wrapped around the footpad nose. It seems secure, and so far does not seem to be buffeted by the wind.
Ruth Anne returns home at the end of the month; then she will see I am again Onewheeling -- then maybe she will email photos to me that I text to her. In the meantime, I have few or no photos to include in these posts.

You mean, she will see you start OneWheeling again on the day she gets back! Will she even notice you have another board or has she lost count? 😜
-
... That's all I got after seeing that board.
-
@onedangt -- Here is the story of my Onewheels. I rode my first V1 for 10,000+ miles and have not ridden it now in a year or so. Looking for a Plus, I found one locally but had a hard time connecting to make the transaction, so I found one in New Hampshire, traveled across four states and got it. Then the local Plus came through, too. So, I have two Pluses. The OneDanXR with its Rambo fender definitely looks different than the others.

@S-Leon this thing is irreverently bonkers btw. no wonder u busted ass... u forgot the mattress. i mean what's that foot pad made out of?! a old keyboard? dear god. im gonna have a talk with Ruth Anne about this.
-
@s-leon Off topic: You have an idea what a plus controller sells for nowadays? Got one, need buyer;)
-
@maciak -- Two to three hundred dollars for a Onewheel Plus controller is what I have seen on Facebook.
Is yours 3206 or 3208? I have two 3206 that I use, but I hear 3208 is more desirable.
-
@s-leon 3206. Worked great always, just parted the board out. Battery box and hub is on the vesc now, cb+ and bumpers sold. Just need to get this controller a new home.
-
Working on putting my Ignite Lifted Plus back in service, while switching over the BadgerSense I noticed the black rubber stall mat sections I was using for freewheel brakes were both cracked at the screws holding them on -- brittle and without much structural integrity! So, I went back to sections of rubber bicycle tire -- much better!
-
@maciak -- Tell us more about your VESC -- either here or in the VESC thread.
Like it? ...Meeting your expectations? ...Anything unexpected? ...Recommendations or advice?
-
@s-leon Love it. But the Ennoid bms is acting up, it's actually not suitable i think. And the maker is a dick.
Will try to make a writeup when i have some time. Was/am planning on documenting a clean build.
-
@maciak -- Can you ride a VESC without a BMS? -- Like I can ride a Onewheel Plus without a BMS. Or maybe just use a BMS in charging?
-
@s-leon Yes, the idea is to use the bms charge-only anyway. The max battery amps for discharge are set in the vesc. I just like to see my cell balance status and battery temperature before/during/after ride on an experimental product. The rest of the board parameters are visible in the vesctool app.
External balancing would be great but a bit of a hassle to get 21 balance leads outside the battery box while still keeping it water-resistant.

This. Saves needing all that extra space for the fets and heat management.
I think most of the DIY eSk8 guys prefer charge only too for this reason along with them generally being much cheaper.
