Vesc specific batteries
-
Just to share here, as far as it's not known already:
Chi re-did the CBSO battery for use with VESC. It includes a bms and comes as 20s2p 18650 config. Think using the Samsung 30q. It needs a switch on the vesc (like raiden/lfoc3 etc).
The battery fits in the stock casing.Igor (Onewheelriders workshop) also did a collab with badgerwheel and is about to release a VESC battery:
A 19s2p 21700 pack designed for use with the Ennoid Xlite bms (because of how the balance connectors are configured). It comes with a injection molded casing with very good water resistance. -
@maciak Thanks for sharing :) I wasn't aware of this. Hyped to see such a big pack available for the DIY scene which will no doubt help lower the bar to entry for some since the battery is probably the most nerve-racking bit for some.
Igor (Onewheelriders workshop)
Is this by chance the same Igor that has done some CAD work for the boards? Seen an XR battery housing that was made by "Igor from the Facebook group" and was curious who it was in case I ever want to credit him later for using it on a future project.

@lia Not sure. Igor Samul, owner of onewheelrider.eu
Im not on fb;)

AFAIK, he never did any CAD, he has employees from eastern europe which does for him.
Being both batteries made but chi batteries, TORque and CBCSO, which is quite expensive already, would love to know how much will be the TORque pack. I think that the cost will be at least as expensive as an entire pint.
Would love to know too, if there are really benefits bewteen the ennoid or the smartBSM in the CSCSO at the end of the day.
Obviously regarding the size 18650 vs 21700 perspective, is clear the benefit, althought considering the 20s vs 19s, I don't have it that clear, except more range for 21700 (19s) but more speed for 18650 (20s).EDIT: looks like TORque battery will not be made by Chi batteries, he just still uses that to catch people not being true
-
It does look like CBS'll be making it from the email that was sent... It's just not live on the site, while the CBCSO looks to just be reusing previous site info, which is why it's present now.
-
Does anyone have a link to where I can learn more about this TORque box enclosure? Is it only for VESCing, or can it be a better way to install a CBXR?
-
It will likely be some time before word on them starts spreading. Most people with a board that dies, usually part it out, if not junk the whole thing, if they don't send it back to FM for a full fix. Also going up to a 84v system to match the GT is likely another big additional expense.
This makes it more unlikely that we'll see Pint VESCs, which seem to be pretty common from kids killing their boards. As we're talking well over the cost of a new Pint/PX. Even as an XR conversion, the only thing that'd be left at this point would be the motor... So a lot would have to go wrong, and I don't really see that a lot of people that have gotten into OWs over the last year as being competent, or interested enough to do a VESC conversion.
I think that maybe by year end/black friday, depending on how things are with the GT would be telling on how much VESC feasibility and adoption goes. As a ground up VESC in an XR form factor that's competitive with a GT would be a fun winter project, that doesn't use FM parts.

@biell There's no info so far. Maybe on Fecesbook?
Either way it should be possible to put a CBXR in it, but you'd need bumper adapters for it as im certain the box will be higher (and less tail clearance). According to Igor it was a collab with Badgerwheel so they might know something? -
-not limited by battery type
-not limited by vesc used- Extra box with modular battery for air travel?
- All XR aftermarket at disposal
- repair at will
-Adjustable behaviour including pushback
Yea, my current project will cost more than a GT but above alone will be worth it. It's not for everyone but kit-type of options are very close.

seems counter intuitive to me. i would figure there are gonna be so many orphaned og pints around, that the expense for a vesc pint x would be on par with a stock pint. i would be interested in converting my xr to vesc gt when the time comes.
-
To fully convert a Pint i don't think it's worth it, especially if you were the one to kill it. As the conversion becomes nearly as expensive.... Also I'm referring to most of the newer people, that wouldn't be pursuing such a conversion... Especially if they're bankrolling it out of their own pocket.
Now, for someone looking for a husk/skeleton of a board to start with it makes things a lot easier.
I'm also pretty certain that we won't see the TORque pack in a pint formfactor. Which then makes the Pint sized VESC more unlikely, as most will want to focus on increasing voltage and capacity for a build.

@maciak Thanks, if you do hear something more concrete, please post back for us to take a look.
My CBXR fits nicely in my battery compartment. I'm pretty confident I only squeeze down on the foam to close mine, but I know others have a tough time. They have to squeeze the batteries, which you aren't supposed to do. I have always felt Chi should sell battery box that didn't have to be modified. Well, at least the plastic part of the box.
-
@biell Sure will do! Honestly no single CBXR fits in the casing properly. It's not that the foam only compresses. If you measure, even visual you will see a slight bulge both on the lid and casing. I too had not much issue installing it, just hold down by hand and cross-tighten the bolts. But this force is not to be underestimated. Now if i remove the lid i can put it back on an it just falls into place without pressure.
-
@biell What i got so far:
-Badgerwheel makes the casing.
-ETA about 3 months
-Compatible with stock harness
-NOT compatible with stock lid
-Has it's own lid!
-NOT compatible with existing bumpers
-Great waterproofing (logical if Badger makes em;)
-Price around $100, cheaper possible if there's enough demand for it
-He will try to have made compatible bumper at time of release.
-CBXR will fit no problem!Confirmed: it comes with a lid and CBXR fits. Will edit this post if i have the info. No supplier i contact actually answers all questions asked. Pretty fuckin annoying as i do not correspond in Arabic..
-
@maciak Thank you, this is great information. It is a shame that it won't support BANG bumpers. But, given what they are trying to accomplish, that is understandable. I will definitely be keeping my eye out. And, at an ETA of 3 months, would likely recommend to anyone thinking about a CBXR to hold off and see what they release.
-
@biell Above updated: comes with lid, CBXR will fit no problem!

Bit off topic: IT'S ALIVE!
Just need Ali to deliver my 20s chargerš¤£
-
@maciak You tease, I need to see some build pics :D
-
@lia Lol i was just assembling some parts to see if my custom harness fits and to explore the focer..before i knew it the build was complete (except yesterday, different story) but i will re-do it for a complete reference). I cannibalised the + box lid for the printed battery case. Looks over-wired but i prepared the lot for a revised version of rEscue/lights. Dunno if it will fit thoughš¤£.
