Back in Hawaii for a few weeks and, as such, riding my X again. I noticed that when I put my first 200 miles on the Pint X on my last trip after riding 7000+ on the OneDanXR, it was quite a humbling experience, even with the Hoosier treaded installed. Still quite "wobbly", smaller pads, and having to deal with the extreme pushback at 16 mph took some of the fun out of it.
But now, after putting some 850 miles on the GT, I hopped on the X and was amazed at how much more comfortable it felt. Perhaps because the GT has it's own wobbliness to deal with, my muscle memory in my feet and ankles has changed and the X now feels almost normal. The paths and offshoots that used to scare me a bit here I can now just dive right into.
I never really trusted the increase in torque due to the smaller tire diameter, but now it just seems natural. I do miss the higher speed a bit, but not all that much and certainly not enough to fork out another $2500+ on a board I only get to ride every few months. :)
Anyway, just some thoughts from a happy floater that doesn't have to give up the OW when I'm at my home away from home!

@onedangt You’re living the dream! I was always curious why you didn’t ship OneDanXR to your island residence instead of purchasing a PintX?
-
@hanahsdax Funny, I actually had the XR shipped to Hawaii when I first bought it, thinking I'd keep my + at home and use it here. Unfortunately, I was not very experienced riding, so it wasn't all that fun here with the rougher roads. When the bluetooth was fixed by FM, I had them ship it back home to Cali instead of back to Hawaii and sold the + eventually. So when the Pint X came out, I thought I'd give it a try as my Hawaii board again and it's working out pretty well. And now @S-Leon is giving the OneDanXR a new life!

The park in the outro of this video (13:00) is around the corner from my house. I ride it almost every day, but not like Jeff does!
-
@onedangt That's pretty cool, ever ride into any of the TFL boys on a route before?
-
@lia I did run into Jeff earlier this year (who I had met with Raequel at a coffee shop, we were all on OWs, before they even started TFL, and then got married) when he was testing out his varials. He asked if I wanted to try them, but I was walking my dog, so I declined. I have seen a few of the older guys riding around, usually passing opposite ways. Haven't run into the crew or any of their young "stars" though, LOL.
Most of their videos showcase the exact area I live and ride in, so that is really fun to see!
Edit: Fixed "Raequel"
-
@onedangt That's amazing, nice little bit of lore. Shame you don't see them around anymore or the rest of the crew. They seem like a fun group to chill with assuming on camera and off camera personalities line up. Not always the case but not always bad either.

Freeze this video right here, that's me crossing the street walking my dog getting a wave back from Bohdi!

New TFL VESC vid
. -
@onedangt This..
this gives me an idea............... -
This new TFL video showcasing the new GT dubs is almost the exact route I rode today here in Sacramento. I live 2 blocks from the park they start at.
I can do approximately 1.2% of what Bohdi does on his board. But I can say, I rarely fall off! :D
I also ran into Jeff, Bohdi, and a few other TFL folks yesterday as I was heading home right where they were about to cross the bridge in the video.
-
@onedangt i wish i could ride even
10%5% of how Bodhi can ride. he's amazing. and by all accounts he's just a super nice guy. great video, thanks! [EDIT]: also really nice to see he's wearing a helmet now. i know he's a super competent rider, but he gives newbies a false sense of confidence, i think. nice to see him being an example and wearing protection. -

Yeah, that's one thing I dislike about their videos. When riding around Sacramento, there are alleys and driveways, both residential and commercial and I can't even count how many times I've been close to being hit by a vehicle popping out in front of me. I get chills just watching 5 or 6 of the TFL guys riding around at high speeds without any gear thinking one of them may get their melon squashed at any moment.

@onedangt
It's happened to me a lot in Dallas, especially near Frisco. I usually stop at intersections or lights, and I seldom ride on the roard unless I know that it's well-lit and there's either a lot of people around on OWs or if there is a bike lane. -
An addition to artistic eye-candies.

Now THIS is a lesson on how to make a fun onewheel video! Go Jeff and TFL!
