Worst weather you've ever rode in
-
@lia -- A rockin' and rollin' headwind Onewheeling on the way out, followed by a jazzy tailwind on the way back. That's a description of one windstorm I rode through. Exhilarating is how I felt it. On the trail through the woods, trees buffer the wind some. But the wind across the farm fields can make the Onewheel dance!
-
Actually, this particular snowstorm a year ago did not seem so bad. -
@s-leon That's a good description of the events, get a good idea of that ride from it :) Side winds from fields catch me out a lot especially when there's a break in the hedge creating a column of wind like a freight train.
Love the pic, do I spot a little wing mirror on those glasses? That's some amazing ingenuity!
-
These dirty, gnarly Onewheel icicles were probably formed in some other winter weather last year. -
@s-leon That's crazy!
-
The absolute worst weather I have experienced riding a Onewheel: A twenty-six mile ride in cold spring rains running continuous puddles, umbrella in hand, driven by sideways gusty winds, needlepoints of rain stinging my face and hands, rain and splash soaking my heavy clothing to the skin, the puddle-splash continuously assaulting the Badger-integrity of my Onewheel...
...Winter snowstorms and dry season windstorms are genuinely a pleasure in comparison.

@lia Expecting gusts over 90mph over here. Prob nope riding today. Not the wind i fear...rooftiles mostly.
-
@maciak -- Oh, my! Ninety mile an hour winds! Tree toppling winds! Gnarly branch dropping winds! Yes, and roof tiles could be a real hazard!
-
This particular snowy day last April had beautiful hazards. -
@maciak 90!?!?!
Stay safe out there, boss just told me their neighbours shed just nearly flew away with all their garden tools in it at only 40mph.@S-Leon I remember that pic. It's very calming to look at, very chill vibes ;) That said if there was any amount of fog/mist in that it'd remind me of all the "Liminal Space" pics I've been seeing recently.
-
i vote that @S-Leon wins, lol. those photos are amazing!
-
@franko -- It's just that snow is easily photogenic.
-
@s-leon badass AND modest! ๐

Ok,ok...over 145kph tops so far, still increasing. Id rather have something like in your pic below๐ฌ

By the way @lia , the eyeglasses-clipped mirror is not of my own design, is popular among bicycle riders, and is commercially available: https://takealookactive.com.
-
What?! Those @s-leon freezing pics are just legendary!
(Personally .. a decision for onewheeling is cause consequence of good weather locally. - So I initially thought not to speak along this topic at all.)
-
Heat doesn't photograph so well ๐

I once rode in temps below 50F! Wind (ok, breeze) was at least 18mph and I accidentally put on my light sweatshirt instead of my heavy one!!! Does that count?

lol same! ive ridden before and after a pretty big storm.

I've ridden in a lot of really cold weather, but that's usually pretty undramatic because it's dry/icy.
Last summer, though, It was soooo windy sometimes. A sturdy peanut butter sandwich stands up to all winds, though. (Clip 1)
And then I tried twice to ride super far unsupported in northern Sweden. First time, it rained and hailed really hard and I had to get picked up after hiding out under an abandoned house for an hour or so (Clip 2). The second time, I had to shelter on the front stoop of an abandoned house when the sky just opened up (Clip 3). At least that time it actually stopped raining.
Apparently, my super power is to be near abandoned houses exactly when I need them!
