I was due for another tumble
-
Been a while since I took a spill and wow did the fates have one in mind for me.
(Trigger warning. Sorta graphic detail and a bit of blood)
Cruising back at 10PM in the cold after a spontaneous desire try out a new 50km route I just found. Anyway long story short, just like my hang time, I took a 25km/h slide that shredded my jeans and took a nasty dime sized hole into my knee. Maybe 5+mm deep just shy of the bone. No pics because it was dark and well the blood wasn't helping. Also... it's grim lmao.
However my helmet and wrist guards did their job as I ragdolled along the road like the muppet I am.
Taxi to home to drop off my gear then to A&E to make sure I wasn't just thugging out something more serious.Lost enough skin on the knee that there's nothing to stitch (yippe, I hate stitches) so it'll take up to 3 weeks to heal from the bottom up. Hand was swollen but no fractures. Me and the nurse got a giggle out of how surprisingly fine I seemed despite the crater in my knee. Gotta love UK healthcare. Hadn't even sat down and was called to be seen. Took no more than 30 minutes to sanitize my wounds, pull the road and jeans from the hole, xray me and double check before sending me on my way with some replacement bandages and a a giggle with the staff.

Pic just after getting a fancy bandage. My blood knows no mercy and wants to get out. Got a gnarly and legit tear in the jeans so not a complete loss.So anyway... do as I say not as I do. Wear pads!!!

@lia hope you heal quickly and get back to riding soon, glad the injury's wern't any worse
-
@wheelwizard I bounced back pretty quick thankfully. Went for a little spin earlier but defo feel my body aching a loooooot 😅
Defo could have been much worse. Helmet once again came in clutch and stopped yet another whack. -
@lia Badass, maybe some Ibuprofrofen might be the ticket for a day or 2 if not just for getting a good nights rest
-
Yikes! Glad it was relatively minor. Heal fast and heal well!
-
Oh! @lia -- Knee pads can be comfortable, easy to put on, and a regular part of life. I'd feel naked without mine!
Heal fully and well! -
@s-leon I'll probably reconsider not having knee pads. Issue is a lot of them I find super uncomfy and really distracting >.>
I get to peel off the bandaging tomorrow to clean and replace them so get to see the carnage 😅 -
@lia Glad you're ok overall and hope you heal super fast, falling crosses my mind most rides... Not all of the time but regularly and especially as I've not had one for age. I tend to keep the speed under 15mph in general, I always put my arms out and for me it's the left arm that gets hit. Can't be screwing that up again 😉
Never seem to hit my head though.
Take care. -
Yikes! At least nothing it fairly minor!
-
Bandage off. It's proper mingin under there but healing fine. I'll spare y'all of the picture I took of it freshly peeled back 😅 At least that's one more bit of skin I won't have to shave anymore!
@Puzz360 I always mess up the left arm too. Just the nature of it being the leading arm lol. Just a ickle wickle graze though this time so no complaints here. Makes me feel like a real skater with all the scrapes 💅 Gotta work on my ragdolling though so I take more superficial damage and less... flesh woundy types.
@Lemur Yeah I'm pretty lucky it wasn't something like a break. That'd really mess up my ride vibes moving forward. Would tie me down to living vicariously through you all instead.
