Whoa - Voluntary Recall
-
@puzz360 yeah, honestly, i haven't decided either. but then again, you can turn it off in the app, so why not, i guess.
-
@franko Only problem is the firmware update making Nrf/Digtilt unusable
-
@puzz360 Caution.. firmware update making some hacks unusable.
-
@lemur i was wondering how it would affect user mods... i guess it's not a surprise that it would. I guess according to their YouTube page only the GT firmware update is out right now. The rest are coming "in coming weeks."
-
@lemur mmmh exactly. Long live 4209 ;)
-
@puzz360 I heard from a reliable source that you can only update once, meaning if I updated my firmware and went back to 6109 for Nrf/Digtilt to relevel or install a new battery then you can't update again. A one shot deal, so I'll wait until I have new rails and the CBGT battery installed first.
-
@franko im curious but wary. I dig tilted my XR and i love it. if the update nukes that option, id be VERY unhappy about it... id def vesc it and never look at a onewheel again.
-
@puzz360 no im deeply skeptical. ive got a stock XR with thunder rails and delirium thx to dig tilt. im hitting 23mph on the downhill. im good on updates right now.
-
@notsure I was gonna update but hearing the potential for things to be locked out completely puts me off.
-
Yeah not happening for me. I don't trust that it won't block future aftermarket upgrades I might want.
If this haptic feedback could be altered to massage my feet whilst I ride it might be another matter. -
@lia now that i think about it, im not sure if the dig tilt recalibration would be removed. If the new update requires the rider to relevel the board, it would be a liability, so perhaps the hardware calibrations aren't modified. But perhaps that's just wishful thinking.
-
Any thoughts on a way to faraday off the BT module in the GT to make it less likely for someone else to accidentally (or as a cruel joke) connect to my board and try to update it? I almost never use the app anyway, so not using the app isn't a big loss for me.
I have almost everything except the battery for my VESC. So, assembly should start soon. The day I heard Jeff's favorite board was a VESC, I pretty much accepted I would never buy an FM board again, this firmware update is doing little to change my mind.
-
@biell Maybe have a third party app always connected when riding? It would stop other apps connecting to do that without modding the board.
I did consider disabling the BT module by removing the cap that enables the built in antenna but I think having the BT radio unloaded would damage the internal amplifier. RC days taught me never to run a transmitter without the antenna so I assume the same applies to BT being a different frequency.
-
@lia I did think about that for my XR. But, I don't think the GT has a 3rd party app, right? I was expecting to ride the GT for a while, and then maybe in a couple years convert it to a beast VESC once someone figures out how to make a GT platform battery that gets 50 miles per charge.
I don't think this is likely to be an issue, but I was just wondering if anyone had a creative idea. Thanks for the thoughts.

Personally, if it gets CSPS off of FMs back, then I'm fine with it.
Though, I'm hoping that the haptic buzz doesn't cause any adverse side-effects.
-
@loaffette I assume it will. Someone must have been a really squeaky wheel for the CPSC to step in and oil it. I'm genuinely surprised the CPSC decided to pick this up at all considering how little there was to go on comparatively to literally anything else. Someone really really really must have gone out of their way to cause this fuss.
My concern now is FM are probably going to be walking on eggshells to do literally anything good while quick to implement stuff less desirable. All while we see DIY and abroad manufacturers make their own stuff unhindered.
I'd be half tempted if I was them to include with new purchases a set of plasters (bandages) with "I didn't read the manual" written on them as a bitter jab. Actually that might be a funny sticker even.
-
@lia I see
also I'd buy that within a heartbeat

Hi everyone, Sorry I haven't been on the forum for a while. Life has been getting in the way until this update email arrived.
Great to read everyone's thinking. I'm going to sit on the fence for a while to see how the update might impact my 4208 XR. My ride still pretty std. The thing that would bother me most is if the pushback is changed so its as violent as the pint. After 15,000km I'm tuned into the subtle pushback of an XR.
-
@stinkyface Hope you're doing okay!
I personally don't think I'm ever going to update any of mine with this unless they allow us to turn it off. Pushback is more than enough for me.
-
@stinkyface I don't even think the XR pushback is that subtle.
