Halloween 2022
-
@blkdout HAHA I also remember wanting one of these things like 9 years ago when Adam Savage showcased it on his Tested YouTube channel!
-
@Lia Yup! It sat in my cart for a couple months but eventually had to have it lol. I haven't powered it up in over a year so hopefully the initial excitement comes back.
@cheppy44 That video was definitely one of the catalysts to me finally pulling the trigger. I didn't build a cool storage tote like he did but the one it came with is very nice for being just cardboard and foam lol.
Edit: Pulled the box out for some pics:

@blkdout said in Halloween 2022:
You guys are reminding me I need to power up my robot spider this year.
fools!
-
@notsure Hexapods were on my list too. Glad I decided against them lol.
-
I think...
THINK
...I'm done. Certainly running low on time to make a video if I don't stamp this with the big "done" label.I present to you the prettiest looking liability to me riding I've made to date.
As @blkdout suggested I made a spider have a gem like bit (the big one in the middle).
Really like how that pentagram came out too, looks so cool :D
Pentagram STL, Spider STL and Gem STL in case anyone wanted those. I didn't make them.
Tiny little rock pots on the side were a cute addition. Surprisingly finding stuff that looks like filled potion pots wasn't easy. At least ones that look good but these after wire wrapping them to stop the cork coming out look amazing.
@cheppy44 Inspired me to LED the cauldron. Or rather made me want to so badly after showing me the super cool LED addition he made to his recent project. Funnily enough we had the same offbrand Arduino Nano and LEDs which was a cute coincidence. Rainbow effect cycles the cauldron in a really smooth way. That rock up front wire wound to the cavity was the last thing I added to this but has been waiting to be added for weeks. Was pretty hard to wire wrap that without it slipping out.
Another last minute addition. Copper pentagram on the broom bristles. Initially this was to hold that rock earlier but it wouldn't sit in it properly so I put it here :)
With the lights out it looks really cool. Although I don't think I'll be riding this in the dark.
Not to be left out the wand and a cool little stand I made for it. You have no idea how happy I am with this wand... it just looks and feels great :D
Still want to make the stand a bit cooler but since it won't feature in the video I don't need to rush to make it look nicer.
And I guess the last part of the puzzle, the rider.
Not nearly as cool but I'm not as good at making custom costumes for people.
I may have spent a while flicking this about at myself in the mirror.
Still haven't decided on the makeup yet since the deep black eyeshadow around the eyes actually made me look so evil I wanted to explode.
I mean... I'm dressed as a witch so I should look a lil evil. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut... I also kinda feel something is off. That said I don't fancy putting in huge amounts of effort of dolling up for riding so if I opt for this I'm happy since it's a low effort smear on my face lol.
So er... guess I need to test ride it all. It's not easy to ride having given it a shot in the apartment. Wish me luck lol.

@lia Like, WOW! If this were my project, I might make it by NEXT Halloween!
-
@onedangt Thank you <3
I wanted to give myself a lot of time as I just felt this would take a while. Sure enough it was like a month of fiddling.My next issue after Halloween is... where TF do I put it 0.o
Without slush attached it's like 2m long, 0.55m wide and 0.45m tall. -
@lia -- Your work is so well thought out and so well crafted -- it's intimidating... and enthralling!
-
@s-leon Thanks :)
The most intimidating bit by far is how top heavy Slush is with that all on. The test ride inside was interesting ;) -
Wow, @Lia , so many complexity on details! Purely outstanding!
While gradually scrolling down on descriptions, my mind was buzzing all the way -- I need one look in low-light! Luckly there was one.
The second thought I had -- what if some of those potion pots had some colourful fluorescent (glow-in-the-dark) fillments. Not all of them, but two-three out of five.
AND.. if that effect included to the kit - what if that big cauldron could therefore be emitting more like blazing yellow-orange-red colors insted of that whole palett of rainbowish colors.
Whoops, sorry ... imagination got me carried away. Great work done! -
@sirgu Thank you so much <3
Glad you like all the little details :)Just got back from my first ride session since it's dry. My anxiety flared up dreadful this time and had to cut the ride shorter than I wanted to let my nerves calm and do a few repairs.
2 Potions became unstuck and popped off and the big crystal broke free. Fortunately I have some spare potions pots and the crystal I managed to collect so I can re-attach it.
My hat also kept wanting to blow off so I managed to make a quick strap from some leftover leather but it stretched mid ride needing lots of tightening.
-
@lia looks great! u must be a hit at the conventions lol! i think if u get ur hands on an afro pick, u could fluff that cotton all the way across so the colors blend in the middle.
-
i think it looks fantastic - LOVE the cauldron! and i think your costume also looks great, makeup included. it's halloween, after all -- can it really be TOO much??
-
@notsure I've never been to one, everytime I hear about them it's like the following weekend so I don't go to them, that or they're in the USA D: Would love to though. Get good at making regular costumes and go join all the other cosplayers. A girl can dream~
I wish that'd work. The LED's aren't bright enough to make it all the way to the middle so I decided to settle on the fluff just being a bubbley froth :)
@Franko Thank you :) I've opted not to do the makeup as I was in such a state in the morning I couldn't bare spending more prep time. That said I got 2 rides in and a McDonalds while dolled up so all in all it wasn't so bad.
-
I can't add anything, in fact, I'm almost speechless. My jaw literally dropped at the first photo, then it just turned to smiles. SO RAD! The little details blew me away (happy to get a mention on one lol), really like the potions and flowers and pentagrams.... and of course, the spiders!
Before you even mentioned it, I already knew you were casting spells with the wand lol.
-
@blkdout Thank you :) The spider gem was a cool idea!
Flowers really tied it all together thankfully. Honestly think the end result was cooler than all the sketches :D -
@lia you really make me want to post my costume, but how could i possibly follow up after that incredible costume??
-
@cheppy44 Do ittttttttttttt D:
I want everyone else to see yours too. It was so cool!!! -
@cheppy44 I'm intimidated to follow up with anything now too lol. But, eh just post it, it's the Halloween thread!
-
@lia fineeeee
Here is my costume, It took 2+ days of constant printing to make the shell and over 2 rolls of filament.
I then spontaneously decided to put leds into it so that took a whole nother day to melt/drill out channels for it inside the white bit of the shell
I was making changed to the electronics and the code 10 minutes before I left, but I think it turned out great on my group ride! I will also be in a night parade this upcoming weekend with a bunch of other people in my group ride group.
For now this are the best pictures I have with me wearing a Mario hat and Tanooki tail
Lia still wins by a loooong shot, but I won best costume out of my group :)
ohh and I was blasting mario kart music from a bluetooth speaker when rolling past groups of people in the city.
