Maybe cut slits for expansion or slots to fit around the fins. Good idea.
Very good idea, finished the prints the other day and did similar but I modelled a rough shape of the cauldron instead.
Looks alright but I need to now add some padding to the frame before paper-mache'ing the final skin. Still waiting on wallpaper paste to do that >.>Here's a few more build pics~
Need to make the broom bit bulge out at the side more and taper at the tip for a cool look but for now I just have a large volume padded out to save on materials.
Edit: wallpaper paste came :D
Also I love big staplers now!
Only did the one side so I could let that dry before doing the other. Somehow didn't get glue on the carpet.
Small sketch to try decide where to take it next

My brother and I had a conversation a few weeks ago about not celebrating Christmas anymore and just doing Halloween. Of course I agreed and he sent me a Halloween gift! Made of glass, super cool. Have it hanging above my computer at the moment. It's already freaked me out a couple times today lol.

Not an onewheel related but surely floating related.

Maybe someone here even from close by Plainfield, Illinois? -
Been a while since I updated my progress. Work had me reschedule my week holiday at the end of the month to the one prior so... kinda now have to really get a move on else no video :(
Crunch time...
Pretty much where I left off
Paint makes a world of difference. Also needed to shape the broom bit a little more so found some spade medium density foam and stuffing I used to build the seat in the main room.
Bit or carpet adhesive and wool laid out to resemble actual bristles for the broom. Actually came out really well.
Then a layer of black paint then spray a little of silver to bring back the lighter tones and give it a dusty look.
For the bottom I didn't want a nasty tail drag to ruin the broom so I laid some faux leather on the underside, then layered some twine there instead of wool since I feel it'll handle friction better than polyester wool.
Same paint treatment to that too ties it all together
Wanted to make the broom frame and cauldron tie together better so made some branches stick up and around the cauldron. Simple to do. Use a dowel to make the initial branch, then use some stuffing to give some pliable volume with tinfoil to give it structure and have it hold shape. Keep going and branching out till you have a branch. Then you just paper mache over using the foil to give some varied texture so it's not just a cylinder.
Waiting on the last one to dry before I can finish using the spray paint on the main frame. Then I can go over with a brush and other tones to bring out some texture. Also need to decide on what other decorations I want to add. The cauldron will have a false bottom so I can put some sheer red fabric in to look like a potion while allowing me to put stuff in there like my phone and the wand. Gotta finish that web too since I got a little tired when making it. Alu u channel is there just to weigh it down in place of what I do end up using.
Speaking of wand...
Realised after printing that middle cage is way too weak so I had to redo it. However it got me into making the rest.
Paper mache'd the sticks then sanded it down after to make it smoother and actually has a wood feel.
New cage design and started adding the gems. Leather wrapped the handle and held the base gem down with some wire which I think looks cool :)
Added the gem to the tip in a similar manner. Painted the wand with a base coat to later ad more detail and shading.
Managed to mount the centre gem with some copper wire, also wire wrapped the edges of the leather to protect the edge and give it some detail that looks... sooooooo good!
Almost ready to hex a mofo >:D

A spider, duh!
-
@s-leon Thank you :) Honestly there was a plan but I'm just winging it at this point else it'll never get done lol.
@OneDanGT I was considering a pentagram or some rune but a spider makes more sense... I'm a bit dense today, might be the paint fumes getting through the respirator ;)
That did remind me I did have this like giant spider toy from when I was little and kinda just never threw it out. Scares me even touching it now but what better use for it that this.
Trigger warning:
It's a big realistic looking spider so you've been warned :3Big scary spider D:
I don't know why I kept this freaky looking thing... but glad I did!!!
Now I need to attach it so it doesn't just fall off and terrify some poor child that finds it. -

You'll definitely ride faster with that thing chasing you!
-
wow, this whole thing is so great. thank you for posting the step-by-step process. love the big spider!
-
Looks great. Love the wand too. I vote for a matching crystal spider on the front.
-
@onedangt I've hopefully secured it well to the bristles so fingers crossed it doesn't fall off and terrify some poor kid lol
@Franko Welcome :) I like showing the steps to make stuff like this. Makes it more attainable for anyone wanting to do this. The trick is to learn all the really lazy cheats to make things look good ;)
@blkdout Thanks~ x A crystal spider sounds cool. I'll see if I can kitbash one with some 3D models to prints or something.
Nearly done I think, got a few more bits to add but it's mostly presentable~
Added a darker coat of brown with a brush then smeared and dabbed it away with a cloth to give it some texture so it looks like bark now :) Got a few spots still to do though.
Also added some red sheer fabric to the cauldron to replicate a potion look. Got a purple one coming to see if that looks better.Bunch of jewellery I wasn't ever going to wear helped decorate some bits along with some printed belt buckles sprayed silver, looks real nice :)
Casual pentagram chilling up front wire wrapped to the frame to tension it in place. Seen the technique on some Wiccan stuff and it looks pretty cool so replicated the style.

@lia so fantastic! my only remaining question is: what are YOU going to wear to ride it??

@franko Just a witch but still finishing some details.
Haven’t shared my costume really since I can’t take pics that don’t feel like I’m fishing for attention D:
Sending strength to future Lia who’ll undoubtably have fun trying to make the video somewhat family friendly. Skirts and low angles are not a good look 😳
-
@lia whatever you do, i'm sure it will be fantastic. i mean, look at your ride!
-
@lia I was thinking something simple like a wire wrapped crystal. Kind of like this but way cooler:
However, what you have done to the front is much more witchy! I like it better than a dumb old spider lol.
-
@blkdout Ooo that's cool, I did just 3D print some spiders with the intention of lopping off it's bum and putting a fake gem on it. But a wire wrapped one looks dope too!
Need to finish applying some detail but what I've added recently makes the whole thing look better on a scale of night and day.... just.... need to finish it >.>
