Been a while since I updated my progress. Work had me reschedule my week holiday at the end of the month to the one prior so... kinda now have to really get a move on else no video :(
Crunch time...
Pretty much where I left off

Paint makes a world of difference. Also needed to shape the broom bit a little more so found some spade medium density foam and stuffing I used to build the seat in the main room.

Bit or carpet adhesive and wool laid out to resemble actual bristles for the broom. Actually came out really well.

Then a layer of black paint then spray a little of silver to bring back the lighter tones and give it a dusty look.

For the bottom I didn't want a nasty tail drag to ruin the broom so I laid some faux leather on the underside, then layered some twine there instead of wool since I feel it'll handle friction better than polyester wool.

Same paint treatment to that too ties it all together

Wanted to make the broom frame and cauldron tie together better so made some branches stick up and around the cauldron. Simple to do. Use a dowel to make the initial branch, then use some stuffing to give some pliable volume with tinfoil to give it structure and have it hold shape. Keep going and branching out till you have a branch. Then you just paper mache over using the foil to give some varied texture so it's not just a cylinder.

Waiting on the last one to dry before I can finish using the spray paint on the main frame. Then I can go over with a brush and other tones to bring out some texture. Also need to decide on what other decorations I want to add. The cauldron will have a false bottom so I can put some sheer red fabric in to look like a potion while allowing me to put stuff in there like my phone and the wand. Gotta finish that web too since I got a little tired when making it. Alu u channel is there just to weigh it down in place of what I do end up using.

Speaking of wand...
Realised after printing that middle cage is way too weak so I had to redo it. However it got me into making the rest.

Paper mache'd the sticks then sanded it down after to make it smoother and actually has a wood feel.

New cage design and started adding the gems. Leather wrapped the handle and held the base gem down with some wire which I think looks cool :)

Added the gem to the tip in a similar manner. Painted the wand with a base coat to later ad more detail and shading.

Managed to mount the centre gem with some copper wire, also wire wrapped the edges of the leather to protect the edge and give it some detail that looks... sooooooo good!

Almost ready to hex a mofo >:D
