Halloween 2022

@blkdout Enjoy :) She makes some crazy good costumes. Thank you so much, spent a while figuring out parts of the outfit and how to do the ship.
Is that a Blair Witch reference?
You got it :D Watched it when I was little. Got the old Rustin Parr game for PC too. That game has nightmare fuel cutscenes, one in particular terrifies me even today.
This year, assuming things go to plan is I'll be a Witch~
Unoriginal maybe so I'm hoping to be that much extra it makes up for it ;)Costume is mostly sorted although I'm still figuring out my shoes and need to make the hat (since all the ones online are kinda lame).
For now have a crude sketch of Slushy's proposed costume will be :3
Cauldron will be difficult since I don't want to bother taking off the flightfins. Will need to accommodate those somehow or hide them.
My other dilemma is ofc I want to make another video however finding a song that is:
a. Spooky,
b. Fits a Onewheel video,
c. Isn't brutally hardcore and offputting
-has become a challenge.Struggle with that last one since my music tastes are
terriblesimply unmatched in how amazing they are. -
@lia I was never into scary games until recently. My friend gave me a copy of The Last Of Us and after finishing it, immediately bought the sequel and haven't been able to put them down since. Takes place 20 years after a fungus-spore zombie infection and highlights the struggles of living in that world. So good in fact, HBO is making a tv series out of it.
Love the Witch idea! I was a witch once when I was like 5. Yes, I'm a boy. Yes, there are pictures lol. Sadly, my music taste is often hardcore and off-putting. The Used has a decent spooky song called Wake The Dead but it won't fit the witch theme and is likely too hard for some but worth a listen. Good thing you're getting started early at least!

@notsure Welp, you made me do it lol. This song is about a woman so evil even Satan is like, whoa...
-
@blkdout I watched someone play the first one, its pretty good :)
RIP bunny >.> Saddest bit.Aha that's okay, nothing wrong with that. Bet you looked cool regardless :D

Had a listen, that's not bad but yeah probably wouldn't fit. Give me an opportunity to use "Marilyn Manson - Disposable Teens" and I'll take it. But... to try keep things tame I'm avoiding that xD
I think I've got one but will need to get some footage first and test it on the TL to see how it fits. I've had at least 3 videos change track mid edit because I realised it just wasn't working.
-
@blkdout im eclectic... but not that eclectic lol. here's some culture young man!
-
@notsure Oh, you got me all wrong in that case lol. Ænima is one of my favorite albums. Top 3 for sure.
@Lia I imagine you making another channel just for the hard stuff now lol. Manson is great, I remember when that song came out I had it on repeat. Their first album came out swinging too.
Seriously though, I understand and appreciate the work you put in. It's hard to appeal to the masses. I haven't seen all your stuff yet but you absolutely nailed the Paramore video. Great work indeed, definitely not easy.

In case anyone still isn't in the Halloween spirit:
-
😈 The song has been chosen~! 😈
And oh is it a good track. Need to stop listening to it so I don't burn it out before I even get to start getting footage >.>Might have stayed up 2 nights in a row going through a bunch of songs in my library. Settled on 1 that has some spooky vibes and has some real catchy pumpyness to it but not aggressive either. Also it's a remake of an 80's track (tastefully done don't worry) so I'm sure it'll keep everyone happy.
Will be keeping it secret till I finish the vid but in the meantime below are a few runners up that were on the "maybe" playlist. However they didn't make the cut because they were too harsh, too tame, not spoopy or otherwise not fitting the vibe I was going for.
- Dead C.A.T Bounce ft. Emily Underhill - Nothing To Say
- Motionless In White - Burned At Both Ends II
- Royal Blood - Hole In Your Heart
- One True God - Come To Me
- One True God & Masteria - Night Shift
- Motionless In White - We Become the Night
- SYN - Psycho
There were numerous others but these were the top contenders.
Anyway enough with the teasing. Have some build pics :3
Need to make that cauldron fit around the flightfins since I don't want to have to remove them for this. Just want to drop the frame onto the board and be done. Cauldron will likely be made from chicken wire and paper mache like the "wooden" broom body will be after I finish the internal skeleton so it's not a floppy mess.
Thankfully all the wood is leftover from the stock pile so I've not had to buy a lot to get this far.

Of course, how else will you make the broom fly???

get a cheap novelty cauldron n heat gun that sucker into submission!

sry its just the size -
@onedangt That's using your noggin! However for witch purposes I'll of course pretend it's some magic ;)
@NotSure That's not a bad idea. If the print I'm doing to template the shape doesn't work I might opt for something like that :D

A shot of you flying through the air off a jump with the moon in the background would make a great cover photo for the video! Better do that last just in case, hahaaaaa!

@lia Wasting no time! Looking good!

Maybe cut slits for expansion or slots to fit around the fins. Good idea.
Personally I would just unscrew the fins lol. Possibly screw the cauldron in their place but I understand the goal of slipping it on and off. Like a nice outfit lol.

Very good idea, finished the prints the other day and did similar but I modelled a rough shape of the cauldron instead.
Looks alright but I need to now add some padding to the frame before paper-mache'ing the final skin. Still waiting on wallpaper paste to do that >.>Here's a few more build pics~
Need to make the broom bit bulge out at the side more and taper at the tip for a cool look but for now I just have a large volume padded out to save on materials.
Edit: wallpaper paste came :D
Also I love big staplers now!
Only did the one side so I could let that dry before doing the other. Somehow didn't get glue on the carpet.
Small sketch to try decide where to take it next

My brother and I had a conversation a few weeks ago about not celebrating Christmas anymore and just doing Halloween. Of course I agreed and he sent me a Halloween gift! Made of glass, super cool. Have it hanging above my computer at the moment. It's already freaked me out a couple times today lol.

Not an onewheel related but surely floating related.

Maybe someone here even from close by Plainfield, Illinois? -
Been a while since I updated my progress. Work had me reschedule my week holiday at the end of the month to the one prior so... kinda now have to really get a move on else no video :(
Crunch time...
Pretty much where I left off
Paint makes a world of difference. Also needed to shape the broom bit a little more so found some spade medium density foam and stuffing I used to build the seat in the main room.
Bit or carpet adhesive and wool laid out to resemble actual bristles for the broom. Actually came out really well.
Then a layer of black paint then spray a little of silver to bring back the lighter tones and give it a dusty look.
For the bottom I didn't want a nasty tail drag to ruin the broom so I laid some faux leather on the underside, then layered some twine there instead of wool since I feel it'll handle friction better than polyester wool.
Same paint treatment to that too ties it all together
Wanted to make the broom frame and cauldron tie together better so made some branches stick up and around the cauldron. Simple to do. Use a dowel to make the initial branch, then use some stuffing to give some pliable volume with tinfoil to give it structure and have it hold shape. Keep going and branching out till you have a branch. Then you just paper mache over using the foil to give some varied texture so it's not just a cylinder.
Waiting on the last one to dry before I can finish using the spray paint on the main frame. Then I can go over with a brush and other tones to bring out some texture. Also need to decide on what other decorations I want to add. The cauldron will have a false bottom so I can put some sheer red fabric in to look like a potion while allowing me to put stuff in there like my phone and the wand. Gotta finish that web too since I got a little tired when making it. Alu u channel is there just to weigh it down in place of what I do end up using.
Speaking of wand...
Realised after printing that middle cage is way too weak so I had to redo it. However it got me into making the rest.
Paper mache'd the sticks then sanded it down after to make it smoother and actually has a wood feel.
New cage design and started adding the gems. Leather wrapped the handle and held the base gem down with some wire which I think looks cool :)
Added the gem to the tip in a similar manner. Painted the wand with a base coat to later ad more detail and shading.
Managed to mount the centre gem with some copper wire, also wire wrapped the edges of the leather to protect the edge and give it some detail that looks... sooooooo good!
Almost ready to hex a mofo >:D
