I got a V1 :D
-
As @HanahsDax noticed yesterday I finally managed to get a V1 :)
Always wanted a one. Ever since the kick starter campaign came out I knew I needed a Onewheel.
For various reasons I couldn't really get one at the time. That was until a week ago when one showed up on eBay and unlike the others I saw that were asking silly money for ones that looked like they'd taken a long roll off a short pier this one seemed just perfect. Low mileage at only 122 miles (196km) and it seemed in relatively good condition. Added bonus was this has a serial number of only 708, not entirely sure how early of a unit it is but I like that it's in the first 1000.
Needless to say I skipped the bidding and pounced straight on the buy it now option as the watching counter began to climb exponentially.
Got it home and cleaned it up. It had been to the beach apparently and it showed since there was sand still covering the bearings and under the footpads. However it rode okay only after a charge since it was left at 12% when I got it.
Removed the paracord handle, it's nice but I'm not a fan myself. Off came the fender and the knurled brass fender screws later to be replaced by some M5 hex key bolts to restore the original look. Had to re-tap all of them as seems to be the case with any board. Left the rail guards on though. For one because I like to keep boards with the character they were given to me with. That and I imagine the rails will have discoloured a little and leave odd looking "tan lines" ;) Bit more cleaning with a wet wipe and it was looking as good as a used V1 probably can.
Took it for a long ride, as long as I could get it to go. I didn't account for how much slower this would be than the XR so feeling pushback hit me at 12mph (20kmh) was bizarre at first and had me yearning to push through. Bad idea, nearly nosedived 3 times especially on speedbumps. Nonetheless I managed to get the battery all the way down to 1% so for a 6 year old board it's managed to retain it's battery health really well.
That all said I was craving speed and torque so once I got home I was rampaging through my town on Slushy to get the fix I was after. I assume V1 to Plus/XR is similar in difference to Plus/XR to GT. If so I imagine setting foot on a GT would have me rarely use the XR D:
Here's some screenies of the top speed I managed with it without going arse over tit plus the diagnostics tab after I ran it down to 1%
I need to expand my stand... again. If only my printer hadn't broke D:
It's not an obsession, it's a collection >.>

@lia I really like the square footpads, looks homemade and classic. Good find as they are getting hard to get with the footpads. I squired away my V1 away with box, it was in a movie shoot .
-
@lemur Thanks :) I was thinking the longer I wait the less chance I get at having one that isn't needing work done or costing a lot because they become a collectors item.
Think I struck gold honestly with this one although yours certainly takes the cake for an absolute gem. That's a very clean board. Display worthy even!

There is a charm to the footpads, sells the homemade vibe for sure.
I think the previous owner of mine stained the wood on the footpads to match the rail guards since they look much darker than all the pics, especially yours. Doesn't bother me too much since it does actually look good.

What movie shoot did the board get to feature in? That sounds really cool.

@lia I can't remember but it was a 2 second shot of a man wobbling around on it.

@lia #708?! Awesome. I thought my V1 was special being under #5000. I still can get my battery down to 1% with over 2,500 miles on it. It’s never given me the premature “board needs juice” warning. Nice collection.

@lia said in I got a V1 :D:

Looks to me like a museum.
Seriously awesome find!

@hanahsdax I was shocked such a low one would even be outside the USA.
Your V1 is certainly special with the outstanding versatility it has shown, mine just has a serial number ;)@OneDanGT Thanks :) Maybe some day it’ll become one.

Expand stand by 2 places. You'll thank me later. Make spot for EUC too ;)
-
@samuraipunch Great minds. Figured I would do that once I get the printer going again :)
Can only add 2 spots before I need to stack upwards. Someone hold my purse so I don't need to do that ;)
Between you and Nici it won't be long before I'm trying one.Edit: I GOT THE PRINTER WORKING YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES.
No need to spend £80 on a new motherboard when I replaced the single TMC2209 chip for £5 :D

@lia You could make a new stand/array... more angled to the wall to fit more in the space maybe? Although for EUCs, you'll definitely want them on the ground, as most worthwhile/fun ones start around 60lbs, and then go up... There's one out that's 104lbs (45kg?) but that one (Begode EX20S) is a beast in terms of battery and range.
