I did a Jw chip install on a XR 4210 controller, Pint bms and Jw battery. I bought a 4210 controller because it was about $200us dollars cheaper than a <4210 controller. The Jw chips were $50us on sale, but now there is a open source "Owie" project which is a Jw chip clone using a $3 esp8266 chip, I have some on order.
The Jw battery, Pint bms in this build were salvaged/repaired units.

@lemur I didn't realise a Pint BMS could work with an XR controller.

I assumed there would be something in the signalling to say "I'm a Pint/XR" to force it to not work between models but happy to see that's not the case :)

@lia I'm going for a ride with this combination today and hopefully it will be ok. May have to hail a taxi. Haha.
... Meanwhile, I'm waiting anxiously for an email for shipping on the GT as it's supposed to be shipped today.

Owie isn't a clone of the JW FFM chip. It is already better, and will only get even more better. Current enhancements include having access to individual cell voltages, a better %remaining calculation, wireless firmware upgrades, and board locking. Soon coulomb counting.

@biell That's great, I'm just waiting for the eps8266 chips. Seems like Owie enhancements are coming fast and furious. T

This is smth that really should have done by FM at first place, for crying out loud.

This is great news, opens up so much more stock for repairs. Thanks for testing this @Lemur

@lia Finally got a chance to test the Pint bms , Jw chip , 4210 controller combination . You are right about pairing , that combo doesn't work.

                        • The Pint bms and JW chip does NOT work with 4210> controller, keeps on asking for reboot, would work for a few minutes then code 16 comes on. The Jw chip does pair a 4208 bms with the 4210 controller and that's the combo I riding with now *. I put that retraction on our local FB page.
I have to try a Pint bms and 4210 controller with Owie.

@stinkyface Sorry, to burst that bubble, actual test ride resulted in code 16 and rebooting.

All good here. Worth a shot.
