Custom shaping though…..
-
@theadman ah I hear ya dood. Hopefully I don’t regret updating lol
-
@franko probably another 2 years haha….. at least I’ll have hit wherever the mileage is by then though
-
@teddybeavis they said on YouTube in the comments that the updates for the other models would be coming in "the coming weeks" -- so maybe 4-6 weeks? we can hope!
-
@teddybeavis I’m gonna take a guess at 1000 miles ?
No idea though ;) -
@teddybeavis said :
... how many miles you need to be able to turn off the haptic feedback?
Probably sounding pessimistic, but I'll bet on this:
- -- gotta have 1000 miles in
- -- gotta be ORL racer
Both of these requirements are met = you can switch it ON/OFF.
(No idea how they make it happen. Time will tell.)
How other ways you'll settle down with CPSC demands, uh?
-
@sirgu I'm hoping that it ends up being that you have to ride with haptic enable for something like 100 miles, then you can disable it. And, that everyone will be able to disable it. But, we will see, and like I said, it is a hope not an expectation.
-
@biell it seemed clear to me that EVERYONE was going to be able to disable it at some point. otherwise they'd just piss off even more people!

Since I ride 80-90% paved bike trails and the rest smooth gravel or dirt, I took the bullet for everyone and upgraded my (mostly stock: enduro tire, flat FM pads) GT. The actual firmware update went without a hitch, but I did make sure to keep my phone on the fender the entire time to avoid any disconnect.
I took it out right after the update on my normal ride and felt no difference. The day before, I hit 19.9 mph (I usually hit 19.x as a high on every ride) and felt the start of pushback. On the ride after the update, I hit 19.9 again, but didn't feel pushback or hear/feel the haptic buzz. Since I rarely break 20 mph, I may never get to experience the "buzz"!
I'm an apex (previously delirium on the XR) rider, as I prefer as much power to keep the board under me as can be provided. I'm gonna bump up both the acceleration and braking in the custom shaping to see if I can get an ultra-apex shaping!
As for shutting off the haptic buzz, I definitely understand why some/many would want that, but it obviously makes almost zero difference for the way I ride and might actually be a good warning should I actually exceed 20 mph. Unless, of course, it freaks me out and I wipe out!
-
@onedangt yes dood my experience is quite similar. I only got my GT a month ago but got almost 500 miles on it so far (in love with this thing haha). I went for a decent ride yesterday after doing the update (also went smooth but I also kept the phone on the footpad).
I was still riding with the safety beep prior to the update but find the buzz is actually way easier to notice happening as sometimes I would miss the beep if it was real windy.
Can’t say for sure but I feel like the beep would happen a little earlier than the buzz too, only really get the haptic buzz now when going over 20mph.
I haven’t really noticed much other difference like folks reporting the board is a lot more noisy.

@OneDanGT @teddybeavis Yo, thanks for detailed insight! Also glad the update went without any glitches for you two. Any of you willing to do paved uphill test at modest speed? Might experience your Haptic Buzz properly for the first time.
