DIY battery box for XR

Another DIY product as cheap as hell a battery box for XR:
https://onewheelrider.eu/en_US/p/TORqueBOX-pre-order/165And as it is expanded and needs a propietary bumper, other amazing miracle happens:
https://onewheelrider.eu/en_US/p/TORque-Bumper-pre-order/166From the community, to the community, and as usual, a great price ;)
EnjoyLike @MacIak would say, what do you prefer, FM or DIY scene? What is worse?
-
@ed_co It actually comes transparent... that's wild!
I like them, thanks for sharing :) -
@lia Yes for just EUR250 and EUR80 respectivelly now at price saving... For the amazing price of EUR330 you will have an... empty box!! YES!
But hang on, when the TOR battery comes out it will be no less than EUR700, and wait for it... no BMS that you will spend another $225 for it (XLITE)!!, and then you will have a battery!! just for the small amount of almost a PintX, but just for the battery!
And for course you will need the rest of a whole onewheel!!! Amazing!!

@ed_co -- In the USA these (as well as the bumper) are on the BadgerWheel site: https://www.badgerwheel.com/shop-online/torquebox-pre-order

It's expensive. The diy scene..im starting to hate it. €10 price increase weekly, another dickmove. Oh..and also need a harness if you start from scratch.. Curious what this will cost;).
-
@maciak as said, just the box, bumper, harness, bms and battery will be the cost of a PintX...
And then you need:
- a hub with wheel
- rails
- a HV vesc
- a controller box and lid with all the connectors
- front bumper at least
- footpads
- any other thing I forgot, and didn't even talked about lights here...
Final price, more than a GT... At least the GT is a final product. Doesn't matter what is the status right now.
Anyway... Seriously don't know what to say anymore. But DIY scene doesn't look very good...
-
Still considering all this: The final product (When firmware is good enough) will be moddable, repairable, upgradeable etc. All in your hands, so that is worth quite a lot. This provided that parts will remain available. At this rate it looks like it will and more options for vesc and bms will come. But again: how much will the greed be? Will prices go up more as popularity increases? Or go down, which is not likely since one tastes a good profit margin they tend to keep it or increase it.
Or...look at what happened to JW chip. Competition is key also i guess.

This is one of my main corcerns apart from the money, as I think the availability is not guaranteed whatsoever... So, not sure about it. It will be reparable/moddable/updagreadable as soon as there are parts... what about if we don't have... and just to find a vesc we have to go to the second hand and SUPEREXPENSIVE as there are just few options.

@maciak I have a Pint/ Ubox, 16s1p running right now with 5.3 firmware and Vesc_man's xml, but there are still issues running at slow speeds which I don't trust.
I also have a Xr/Plus platform with R7 and can run 17s max, that I can put the latest Xmls on it when the time comes.
I just don't trust the vesc right now and the last two NDs that hurt me were on the vesc, probably due to me riding with clenched cheeks.
Meanwhile, I'll ride the OW boards that are dead reliable .
On an impulse I did preordered the Superflux motor for the vesc builds, doesn't come with a tire as per advertisement. https://fungineers.tech/products/hub-motor-complete-with-tyre -

Vesc_man's xml
is this published somewhere or just floating around in the aether? it should be published, not traded around like some old pair of sneakers.

It's on the customwheel.shop site

@lemur What problems you have? Im taking the vesc out as long as it's dry and actually prefer the performance over my XR's.
-
@notsure How do you put xml files on here, tried and says I don't have enough privileges for that kind of action?
Also the xml is changing, improving and is not one size fits all, you have to input your own particular settings to it. Eg. voltages, footpad settings cells, a few others and your own motor configs. -
@notsure Also you want this FW
https://github.com/surfdado/bldc/releasesUse the file:"VESC_default.bin" relevant to your vesc.
-
@maciak No problems, riding, I did a short group ride and had no real problems, just the nose started to drop a bit riding over ripples and sharp bumps.
All a matter of trust for me, Surf is trying to merge some of his atr and vescman stuff , just waiting for that. -
This post is deleted! -
@maciak I saw that , I have to check out the features and have to try that out. I see R7 and ubox is on the list, thanks.

XML is plain text. u can open it in notepad. isn't very human-readable however.

@lemur Yea the nose crapping out is still there. Noticeable clearly on tractor trails in dry mud. Basically frequent consecutive deep grooves. Did some crash test dummying on that issue: VESC loses it's shit balance wise, XR loses it motor wise on those spots.
For now i anticipate and "help" the board a bit recover. I must say i ve taken some gnarly trails and it just shines. Couple days ago i swapped to 20s setup and have no charger but im aching to jump back on it.
Edit: maybe we're going off topic here..zhe mozzerator might intervene😂

@notsure I opened it up in notepad. I can send it to you you via chat in stead of clogging up this forum?
