New XR!!!!
-
@wheelwizard Was chatting to someone earlier about what the announcement might be and had to eat some humble pie just now after saying I doubt it'd be an XR style board.
This thing looks nuts great!
GT charger but less range so not sure what pack it's got other than 18s ofc.
6" hub which is great and a naturally lowered stance compared to the GT gonna make this a dream to ride by comparison.Looks clean and ngl I missed the wooden footpads but idk if the old bumpers and footpads will fit.

@lia NGL every time they announced a new board I wanted them to announce an updated XR, 3rd time lucky!!
From what I gather it's GT but with a different frame and smaller battery pack.
The footpads from the tfl video when they were zooming in look like GT footpads
the old bumpers I will guess won't fit as its a different battery box and controller enclosure. -
@wheelwizard Lowkey kinda want one. Like I say that for every model but fr this one is it
Apparently according to some comments the bumpers won't but footpads will. -
@lia I am gonna want one too, I gave in and got a GT in May, I thought a new XR was just a dream and I didn't like the GT when it came out I love mine now though and don't regret it and still have and use my original XR and am not Mr Moneybags to be able to afford another new Onewheel.
Maybe a year or 2 down the line though........ -
Yeah, saw the announcment for the announcment last night.
On the VESCIFY discord server, everyone hopped in VC and I polled what people thought it was going to be. 4 people (including me) thought it was going to be a new XRAside from that, it looks like it's just a GT, slimmed down, put in blue rails, with a 6-inch hub, wooden footpads and some new firmware.
It's about $1900, which is actually a steal compared to a stock GT. The board itself probably has it's own rails which aren't compatible with the GT or XR (that's what a majority of the Vescify server thinks, at least. Personally, I would think that they would at least reuse the GT rails but modify them to still be compatible, but still the same. It wouldn't be economical to design and make a whole new set of rails.)
I'm waiting to see what the TFL does with a teardown of the XR Classic (I'm dubbing it the XRC personally)

@lia From the specs, I'm pretty sure it is an 18s2p with 18650's in it, not sure who manufactures them. It is a great concept all around. The only three things about it I'm not super keen on are (1) they lowered it so the clearance isn't as good as an XR, (2) the name is kinda dumb and anything of the XR-G, XR-S, GXR, GT-XR, XR2, ... variety would have been better, and of course (3) it doesn't have my preferred VESC firmware.
I'll probably be recommending this board to people over the PintX or GT a lot now. Essentially, the only reason to buy a GT now is you need the extra range.

@biell That sounds about right. Can't wait to see one in bits so we can see what goes on inside ^-^
Name is totally a bit odd but glad they didn't yoink my XS name 😅

yes this is what everyone wanted all those years ago. i didnt check but 21mph pushback would be dreamy.

I was wondering if you could take a low voltage but beefy battery in parallel, adn drive the motor at a higher voltage with a series of supercaps or hypercaps or ultra mega cap... if think you know what im trying to say... I want one of those tiny mfers so bad i can taste it! I'd take it to conferences!
-
@notsure I won't get too much into it here but there were a few limiting factors in the old design that some custom bits hopefully will fix. Battery was one but not entirely.
Thankfully this isn't considered a flagship board so I'm safe still making a tiny GTS.
Back on topic though I am super curious what sort of things modders will manage by swapping bits. Kinda like how various parts from the V1 Plus and XR were alike and swappable the same is true for the new gen boards like Pint and up.

I have noticed the power outlet is not in the same place as the original XR and is not center to the rail.
In the new vid Kyle did say it was new bumpers but same footpads as GT -
-
Also Ricky Glaser got one and Bodhi comfirmed gradient tracking

I'd have ripped around the Bellagio lobby till they chased me down and ordered me to stop! Was very interested in popping over to that place nearby to rent one last time. Needs to be plane friendly and TSA-approved.
-
@notsure Technically, yes, but practically, no.
Any conversion is going to have a loss component (heat). Stepping voltage down isn't so bad because you sip current to do that, but to step voltage up you need to draw more current, so you are pushing the batteries harder in addition to the waste.
This is why the car charger requires a 24v, 10A capable cigarette lighter outlet, but still can only slow charge the board.

@biell It was very much a theoretical inquiry - inspired by waves!

@loaffette from what he can see GT (not GTS) in an XR frame one of the comments said the motor is different but we shall see when that is confirmed by either Justin or probably TFL.

Justin has done some science for the community to see if GT rails fit the XRC modules and vice versa.
TLDW; XRC modules will fit in GT rails but you won't fit a GT battery box in the XRC rails. Controller module will fit regardless.
