Gt motor is not married to the board

@lemur Saw someone share on Reddit too.
In this vid I saw they say they performed the change then show the motor spinning but don't actually show a swap occur and work before after so there is some doubt still.https://www.reddit.com/r/onewheel/comments/u9eg96/gt_stators_are_not_paired_to_the_controller_or/
-
@lia A couple of our local group just swapped motors and has bee verified.
-
@lemur Excellent, I was at a loss how they achieved it with no extra pins on the cable!
-
@lia I thought it some kind of magic . Haha
-
@lemur Aha yeah, I did wonder if it was some bizarre impedance check where they relied on minor variations in the motor winding to determine something had changed.
Sort of like how the PS1 used wobble in the disks to detect pirated games... like basically magic.
Someone shared the FB post regarding the motor. Here it is in case anyone was interested

Between this and the new firmware, I am hating FM a lot less. Now, all I need is a better tire and I have the board I expected. If someone can figure out how to repair the battery without sending it back to FM, I will have the board I wanted.
-
Well, FM is not doing correct moves for sure. And I don't like that. I don't like Kyle's reply about the lock of controller/BMS for safety. But what I like less is fake news, and just spread hate for nothing, which makes the situation much worse. I hope this works as a lesson. Like Maclak said once to me, that he was hating the DIY scene even more than FM, for so many reasons involving greedy, and other "measures" too...
FM is trying to do what they can to improve certains situations, which is good. But we have to concentrate in the right to repair, in a good way with contrasted info. -
@ed_co Yep, agree.
They fucked up and disregarded the riders affected, they lied, they delayed, still cant even send damn units overseas, lied some more.Now they released a firmware that should ve been on it since day 1, still to be seen how it will unfold. Instead they let paying customers do the friggin beta testing. But cause they've done a single thing correct now, people went back worshipping. Funny how influencing can turn people on a dime (TFL vid etc), sad really.
As i said before, when the thing hits the market around June here i will get one but at that stage i see it as wasted money im willing to part with. Not for FM but cause im a neurotic bastard and i told myself i would do that when i cancelled my 1st order😬
-
@maciak Same here.
I cancelled mine recently -allegedly (cause they delayed so many times) few days before they would send it-, as some of you know, thinking to get it when arrives to Europe. I still kept all the accessories they sent me.Although I still have problems around disconnecting controller/BMS and bricking it. If the communication between them is encrypted, then we are screwed to hack it. It is not a simple as a JWChip, and I highly doubt (I could be wrong, and I wish), that ever happen. It seems terrible to me, anything involving the battery, not having other choice than sending to FM and being in Europe is not a good deal. This is my main issue.
And a better tweaked firmware, -still not perfect nor polished- (which as Maclak said, it should be there since day one), don't impress me enough to change my mind. It is a good step, but there are so many aspects to consider, which still are not solved, and some of them looks now like a lost cause.

Yep, all they had to do was put the TFL and a few other groups under NDA and most of these things would have been worked out before the initial launch.

it was my impression from FM's recent declaration that you would be able to go down to a local service center to have it serviced. that means no more centralized repair model. there is no other interpretation. sure they might be lying again, but i dont think they are. it's the most prudent decision they could make and so they are doing it. they fixed pushback bc they had to... they paired the components also bc they were forced to do so (from their perspective)… if past is prologue, then we all know that FM only changes strategy when forced. hence the new pushback and liberalized repair regime. they have follow through of course, but its pretty high stakes to gamble on another lie. trust is a cornerstone of value. if i cant trust something, it has no value. trust is value.

@notsure -- I very much enjoy here on this forum your perspectives and analyses. Crisp, intelligent, often with razor sharp humor, and to the point! Looking forward to more... and more...
