"Off Topic" or similar category?
-
Been considering this for a while and decided I'd bring the idea forward.
Would a category for things not specifically Onewheel be wanted? I'm thinking it could be for discussion on similar PEV's or other hobbies.
Reason being I now and then stumble across a cool thing that in some way resonates with the Onewheel vibe but in no way makes sense to post. I'm sure we all have something like that and feel unsure about posting.
Being it's own category it can be set to "Not Watching" or "Ignoring" for anyone uninterested in the topics meaning the forum remains OW only for them, whilst allowing tangential subjects for those that want to share side hobbies. I will likely set the category to members only so it shouldn't appear for guests reading the site in order to keep things more consistent for casual browsers. The category would feature it's own rules that if we go forward with it can be figured out in order to keep it becoming a cesspool.
Would love to hear if it sounds like a good or bad idea. If you'd rather anonymously give your thoughts feel free to start a chat instead :)

@lia -- Makes sense to me.

@lia so, sort of a catch-all kind of thing for stuff that doesn't neatly fit anywhere else? makes sense to me.

@franko Kind of, I figure general is for that however say for instance one of us see's a cool EUC video or some other electric board it could be brought up in the "Off Topic" category without worrying it's not appropriate.
Recently I saw a video of a guy that used some GoKart wheels, a large tire and some box section to make some single track rideable... thing... which would be cool to share but isn't actually Onewheel related without a huge stretch suggesting they use a hypercore for the drive system instead of a DC motor and chain.

Will this be the kind of place where every new member can post a picture of a black hole and ask us all if we are also reminded of a Onewheel? If so, I am totally in!

You know after the 57th time I think I’m starting to see it ;) -

No such thing . . . just kidding, just kidding!

Only tangentially related to Onewheeling -- after snapping my collarbone in three pieces Tuesday... then on Thursday I went English Country Dancing... arm in a sling. One of the dancers asked why I continue Onewheeling. I told her and the other dancers that to me Onewheeling is very much like dancing, with the balance and weight shifting components -- very enjoyable!

@s-leon I keep forgetting how squeamish I can be till I hear about broken bones. Hope that's healing up well.
I like your analogy. I struggle to put it into words without sounding rebellious or indifferent to pain. Truth is it's just too fun to say no to.

OFF TOPIC: Surely of no particular interest to anyone here, this video is an example of English Country Dance as danced at the Jane Austen Ball in Rochester, New York some years ago. Besides being one of the dancers in the video, I enjoy the palette of colors and the dance familiarity I have with most of the women. Onewheeling I dance solo; this is dancing socially.
Curiously, speaking of dance, one of the most powerful and long rock-n-roll electric guitar pieces from the 1970's that touched me deeply then, "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic, I discovered yesterday (listening to it, prompted because of a Facebook post in which someone had named their Onewheel "Funkadelic") the music is really in a waltz time signature and would be stunning to dance to -- with a partner open to it.

Setup the category and made it only visible to members.
https://owforum.co.uk/category/27/off-topicHaven't thought of any clear rules for it yet. A space like that can probably do with some rules so moderation is clear but I trust us all to be sensible with the space <3
If it does become an undesirable space I can remove it later by popular request be it publicly or privately.
