Why do different ppl buy onewheels n stuff?

@notsure said in Why do different ppl buy onewheels n stuff?:
women often find themselves objectified by men,. Some describe pedestrianism as an unpleasant experience sometimes
Didn't occur to me when I got it since I never thought I'd be any good; but being able to weave around a crowd of dudes looking for my attention and shoot off far enough away to chill off is a bonus. Legit happened yesterday, starts with "lets have a go" and escalates from there >.> Maybe I need some claws on my gloves and start owning that local nickname.
In the heat it's nice to get that air blowing past the body which I'm sure we all enjoy. As soon as I stop it's like the temperature just got doubled sometimes. Can't stop won't stop ;)

Really? so i wasn't far off huh... that's a marketable feature. Perhaps there's other oversights?
-
@notsure Yeah, I get really stressed out over it so being able to get away, round a corner and breathe for a bit is honestly a lifesaver.
It's a bonus but my main reason for getting one was purely a cool way to get around and have adventures with :)
-
@lia said in Why do different ppl buy onewheels n stuff?:
Yeah
i can see that. i have an evil sister whom i still reluctantly care for...
My interest is similarly evil however in that im wondering how one could use ur existential terror to hock wares lol!! no i just think women may be a significantly under-represented market.
all the marketing is boy marketing it seems. all the talk about rippin n tearin n shreddin lol... and to be honest, outside of weight-class, i dunno why the comps are gendered at all...
but im admittedly clueless as to how women think... so theres that hurdle.
-
@notsure -- Maybe one part of the reason women are underrepresented in the Onewheel market is helmets -- perhaps a hovding-type air bag helmet made for Onewheeling, which would not mess with heads of hair except in a crash, would make riding a Onewheel more appealing.

see what im sayin? i think we need actual women for this discussion...
-
@notsure In FM's defence there are women in their ads riding around and they did a decent job getting a mix of people in their ambassador lineup. Maybe some more women on the YT channel for the marketing and news vids would be nice.
@S-Leon My poor hair and that helmet lol. I got oversized so it didn't tug too much or completely frizz it out. Not that my hair is amazing but not needing to brush it after is always a bonus.

FM
honestly, they might be a lost cause. theyre not great brand ambassadors, n i suspect they view the resultant economy as theirs to fuck with... i think others are better poised to play that leading role in the future. FM has to pull a rabbit out of their hat. i think once the open source competition really gets in there, FM will be spending more n more money on marketing cuz no one cares about their brand (i would argue including them). i offered my help freely, they swatted it away, confident in they didnt need it. i bet u gt sales arent stellar... n vesc is further along than was anticipated even last fall. just my own thoughts. n yes, they'll be relying on suspension models for mkt share.

Whatever your gender, walking is for peasants lol.
Seriously though, it's an interesting topic. Gender isn't something I generally take note of but did happen to notice a bunch of women in some recent videos. On trails, doing reviews, tests, etc.. However, they weren't the main character and I didn't seek out who they were to find out if they have their own channels. Maybe they are the main character somewhere else.
One video I noticed there were a bunch of women skating and OWing in the background. I guess I'm thinking there are many more women doing it than we, or just I think. Me being camera shy can relate to staying in the background and one thing is for sure, you won't see me riding shirtless lol.

im assuming ur wrist guards carry a decent residual charge.

i was thinking about it. thats a good point! walking is for peasants... a bit aggressive maybe. classist perhaps lol. but accurate!
i can ride my onewheel in the heat of summer n have a constant 12 knot wind chill. when everyone else is sweating profusely, im cruising down to 7/11 to grab a Slurpee... Swing by the harborside on my way back.
No smelly fuel or loud noises. A zen, almost yoga-like physical activity that elevates metabolism. Favors lean muscle. Free tanning.
im surprised its not mostly women!

This is a good point as well. I do find myself engaging with my feminine side whilst riding lol. It involves fluid hip movements, critical thinking and a clear mind.
On the same token, women are much smarter than men so it makes sense they wouldn't put themselves at as much risk lol.

settle down chief... my point is that, marketing is about communicating a perspective on value, correct?
so, if as u suggest, women are for whatever reason more risk averse, then it's reasonable to assume the same marketing strategies may not work for both.
my conclusion would be that women require different marketing than men.
women's race was great! I think FM should sponsor more events.

im pretty beat up about William & Kate too... What if the French find out?

@NotSure lol I thought it was widely known , study after study, women are scientifically smarter than men. Not so?
As far as actual, women-targeted marketing, yeah they could tone down the burn outs and trail action shots. Focus more on grocery, coffee runs, highlight the convenience and practicality perhaps? Have to admit, I don't see much marketing/commercials outside my little bubble. Not sure what most people are seeing.
@Lia Yes, the races were awesome. I peeked at other races for a refresher and the course is more rad coupled with GT's so there's a lot more going on. They needed more cameras and better cameramen IMO but other than that, still worth a watch.

For real I do my weekly shopping on my XR. Yeah I struggle getting it all into the apartment with the XR but it's a tool for the actual travel bit. I mean unless FM start selling boyfriends to carry things for me too the XR has made shopping so much nicer than faffing with my ebike.

I guess given more exposure they'll attract some real talent. Apparently the commentator they got was some well known guy from something else.

Haha! If they start selling boyfriends, they better start selling girlfriends too. I would love to have a close riding partner.

I saw a discussion about the guest commentator. I'm guessing they wanted someone outside of Onewheel to ask those newb questions for new riders/viewers. It gives FM an opportunity to explain a little bit about the board. Made sense to me but others were pretty upset it wasn't Wren. (I don't really know who he is lol)

thats increasingly more commonplace cuz of
doomsday machinesadvertising platforms like facebook n twitter. 'one size fits all' really only applies to ball caps n ponchos these days. gotta know ur demo.
