Where to buy custom rails?
-
So, I've been looking around for fun to see how much custom rails would cost and..
I can't find the original WTF rails, any of the old XR Tech Rails or anything, only the Varials that TFL sells. Does anyone have a clue where the old rails are sold or are they no longer being produced? -
@loaffette I think they stopped selling them :(
-
@lia awww
Is it possible to get rails custom made then? -
@loaffette Probably but not cheap unless "you know a guy" since you pretty much have to mill them out of a chunk of aluminium :(
That said the second hand market is always full of unbelievably low priced deals. @cheppy44 picked up another XR (4209) for $600 the other day. Since TFL kinda made having a single pair of rails redundant with their interchangeable varials I wouldn't be surprised if there are some WTF's floating about on FB. If I could get my existing railguards in WTFs I'd totally be after a set myself.
-
@lia yea, though C&R doesn't make rail guards for varials
-
@loaffette Sadge :(
-
@loaffette Based on a recent post on Reddit, I believe CNR is working on Varials rail guards.

@loaffette UPDATE
yes they do, lol -
Forgot where I posted originally for my custom rail guards I was gonna get made, but I guess I'm posting it here for now.
Hopped into GIMP, and churned these out. Will spend some time this week calling vinyl wrap stores local and down in the city and see if they are up to printing out these rails. Looking to essentially get a printout (on matte paper or vinyl) and stick them to the rail. Then, hopefully I can stick the rail guard I'm gonna get machined on top of the wrap or paper. I'm just worried about the onewheel falling over during a ride, skidding against the rail guard and pulling the paper/vinyl off with the rail guard, or pulling the rail guard off of the paper itself. May test later with an interesting rig I may make.
Also worried about the vinyl made, and picking it up to find that it's gonna end up pixelated or blurry. Up-scaled images that were used to make the wrap by about 4x each to make sure that they don't turn out blurry when shrunken or manipulated in GIMP.
ALSO, off-topic but I will be working on the LED project. I've just been trying to figure out how to really tackle it, and finding the time and motivation to do it.

Will get these printed out w/out the white jagged frame. That was just to help me figure out where the style I wanted to go for
-
@loaffette also the text on the bottom rail reads: "Roses are red, Violets are blue, I am faster than you~"
-
@loaffette Those rail guards are really pretty~
-
@lia thanks!
-
UPDATE: Rail guards are ordered, and I'm going to use my colleges large format printer to print out the decals.
Here's hoping that I don't get an angry phone call/email from the school, and here's to everything arriving on time
Also, I did some soldering
-
hehehehe they are on
-
@loaffette Ooooo looks nice :)
-
@lia thanks! It was literaly done with machines acrylic, printer paper and 3M adhesive. The printer paper works pretty well, actually!
