Rebuilding a 4206 Xr
-
I got the 4206 board up and running , but the charger is green when I plug in the charger, battery is at 80%, however it will charge if I turn the board on while charging and will reach full charge.
Is that normal for a 4206? I changed out the bms, used a different charger too and had the controller opened up to check for bad connections . I noticed Lia mention a 10H10 schottky diode that seems to connect the charge + to the battery, maybe that's the problem?** ordered a few of the schottky diode anyways, just a dollar each. That's the only component between the charge + to the battery.**

@lemur When the charger is plugged in do you see 63v at the 16pin connector? If it's there I guess the diode is working.
I assume something on the BMS isn't triggering to enable current flow which is a bit odd. I've heard of boards that have this issue but not yet seen a fix.

@lia I tried another bms and the same result, but I'll open up the the battery box and check for voltage.
I will also check every small wire on the harness for continuity when i have it apart next time., I only repaired the orange rear light wire and didn't check the other wires.
I believe that this older board can charge by the wall charger when it's turned on because of the third wire(yellow/green) as "regen" .
Thanks for the suggestion. -
@lemur At a loss there. Fingers crossed it's that diode!
-
@lia Yea! Figured it out, you were right about the bms not being triggered, it's a broken wire to the bms. I hooked up a XR harness that I made that is proven to work and used a different battery as the one in the board is at 100%. I'll check which wire is broken and go from there, thanks.

@lemur Nice one!
Gonna assume it's purple that's bust then :) I think that comes off the charge port's yellow/green wire. Blue and Black were the power button from memory and green/white were BMS comm. -
@lia You're exactly right! I just probed the purple , it's a open circuit, and it does connect to the Yel /Grn on the charge port according to the schematic.
-
@lemur Oooo I have a board with the same exact issue! Now to figure out how to fix it.
-
@cheppy44 I'll try to write up an easy way for you to test your harness.
-
@lia I repaired the harness , replaced most of the purple wire because it had multiple kinks.
I used a piece of stiff wire and soldered on a purple wire to thread it through the piece that fits in the cable gland, put new heat shrink and good to go. -
@lemur Amazing work as usual! Clean fix too, certainly better than buying a whole new harness.
