Onewheel Neighbors
-
On my Onewheel I saw and talked with Matthew -- the in-his-twenties, tall, friendly, athletic, superbly balanced-and-in-control-of-his-Onewheel, wears-no-helmet-or-any-gear -- Onewheeling with his dog, Graham, on the Greenway today. I told him, "I was sure glad I was wearing a helmet today."
And then related an innocent fall I had just had on wet grass and slimy dead sticks around a fallen tree on the trail. Trying to cross angled branch-sized sticks extremely slowly, the Onewheel tipped one way, then the other, and as I jumped off my foot slipped and I went down backwards, smacking my helmet on pavement.
Not even a scuff on the helmet, but without I would be throbbing and dazed. Instead I am smiling and happy with the 36 mile ride! Only about 1492 miles to go to catch the number 1 (from Spain) on the V1 distance Leaderboard. At this rate maybe not much more than a month or two.

Yesterday I met another Onewheel neighbor: Brody, Onewheeling a Pint on the trail where my sister and I walk a few times a week. Very nice young man, he is, a local sophomore, Onewheeling the Lakeshore Reservation, scouting the rough and windy Lake Erie that day for surfing conditions. He said he's been Onewheeling for four years now, and hopes to take it with him to Princeton in two. He was quite taken by surprise when I showed him that I hold places on the Onewheel Leaderboards.

I drove over an hour to meet up with fellow OW, more were meant to come but the weather forecast was a gamble. All being well I have another ride with a friend to look forward to tomorrow, and a group ride on Sunday. Life is good right now. :)
-
Well I met up with said friend, who is actually the one who got me into onewheeling a few months ago. Great time as always.
-
@theadman You should tell her to tie her shoe laces up in case she falls down that hill ;)
-
@lia it's just perfect that's in the photo, "reckon I can drop this hill? Oh wait check your laces, it's not safe" 🤣
-
The group ride was as awesome as I hoped, I'm really looking forward to the next.
Never a dull moment with this one!

Zoomies and nuggies on a Friday night. -
Working on a slideshow featuring Chip. Got a lot of great photos of him over the years but I really like the one I took this evening with my GT by his side. -
So, a couple of months ago I decided to get another XR (4209) to have as a spare/donor board….
I saw that someone was selling one on the Onewheel Facebook group at the right time and I guess for about the right price.I arranged to meet the person explaining that I would be working at a semi convenient place that was also convenient to them roughly halfway between us. No worries.
The night before I was going to meet them, the number one Pint daystreak holder Trappedinanelevator messaged me through the OW app to say congrats for making it onto the XR leaderboard.
I said thanks and mentioned I was going to meet “some guy” tomorrow to buy another board… well, yep you guessed it, it was Trappedinanelevator selling his XR. How mad….It was cool to meet up for a coffee, now I have 2 XRs ;)
We live about 150 to 200 miles apart so hardly neighbours but I thought it was a nice story. -
Another awesome group ride today. 10 riders in total.
@Puzz360 whereabouts are you? We'll have to get you in on one of these if close enough. -
@theadman I’m not far from Ride & Glide in Sussex… it’s not beyond the realms of possibility for a meet-up but…… probably a 2 and 1/2 hour drive…. If I am heading up your way any time I’ll message you in case it coincides with a ride out. Cheers.
-
@theadman love the photo btw….
-
@puzz360 this one was up near Mansfield so 1.5 hours for us, with one rider driving 1 hour south.
There was one in Northants and and another near Oxford.
The is talk of riding the roundabout city as the weather turns and the mud season begins. :) -
@theadman ah so cool dood. I’m yet to see any other Onewheel riders out and about, I’m in the North East. Got a couple of pals in Manchester that ride and can’t wait to get over for a little cruise with them!
-
@teddybeavis I was riding about Newcastle a few weeks ago when work had me up there.

Returning to my campus this semester, I have found many more onewheelers on campus. They all ride pints and GT's, so I'm the only VESC. A lot of them are actually surprised to hear that you could VESC a board.
They are all pretty chill people, though I have not been challenged to a race yet.
I have however been invited to a car meetup to bring my onewheel.
I may accept their invitation :) -
Auh! My lanky young man, Onewheel neighbor Matthew is moving! He got a desirable job in Michigan. I saw his mom today, Christmas Day, on the Greenway, walking his dog Graham Cracker, and we talked a bit. She expects (hopes) he will be back here in a year, but he couldn't pass up this opportunity.
Cheryl had told me once that she wanted to try Matthew's Onewheel... Matthew would not let her for fear she might get hurt. Maybe I could invite her to pad up and learn on one of mine while he is gone.
And Graham Cracker? It's still up-in-the-air uncertain whether the well-tempered and friendly-four-year-old dog goes out-of-state with Matthew, or stays snug at home with Matthew's mom, Cheryl.
