Fix stripped controller thread

Anyone know how I can fix this? I tried to do the heli-coil thing but the bit doesn't thread well into the brass. Would muchly appreciate Amazon links or whatever to the parts I'll need :)

I've replaced the inserts on a few controllers... You could see if you have something that will thread in and fit, and basically pull it out... Or try to drill it out. Basically try not to make the hole in the plastic bigger, or crack it is the big thing.

Then when you have a new insert, I like to fill it (the hole around the insert) with a bit of epoxy/jb weld/etc, around the insert, and reassemble that portion of the board, so you can get screws to line up when everything's put back together. It's important to not use too much so that it doesn't over run, and glue the board together so you can't dissasemble it, and or get the screw out. But a little bit to hold it in place, let it cure, then go back and add more to fill it iin, works well too.

but sadly the fucker started spinning once tightened.

@swinefeaster Is that a new insert? I use these. Pinch the end you insert into the controller a little, so when it cures a bit, and you screw in the screw all the way, it expands into the epoxy/plastic and stays snug.

@samuraipunch yes that was a new insert. thanks for the link, will try those! any thoughts on type of glue to use?

@swinefeaster Use a dremel and grind down two sides of the insert on the inside to the plastic and collapse the insert and remove the insert.
Then heat install new 10-32 inserts with a soldering gun , the new inserts are slightly larger than the originals and work perfectly.
I used a milling machine and a 1/4 inch bit to remove the stripped inserts . Photo is a box I got for free that was given up for dead and all six inserts were replaced.

@lemur ok thanks so the inserts i got are also heat set inserts. in this case the hole is too big to just melt it in. what material should i fill it in with? some other plastic and then melt it again? or glue?

@swinefeaster I'm not sure about your inserts, but the ones I use are larger in diameter than the originals. Jb weld epoxy will work.
