Improvements to the forum

Just making a list of things I want to adjust moving forward. Feel free to chip in with a suggestion or voice your opinions :)
- Update the favicon logo that displays in the browser tab to something more viewable.
- Update the site logo, I made it in like 10 minutes in Photoshop so something a little more high effort. Will probably make a handful and put it to a vote.
Update the home banner. Something I spent a few minutes setting up to see if it was possible. Would like to have an animated banner of the same size.- Add banners to the categories that fit the theme.
-
@Lia -- Add-in, maybe please, a category for Onewheel Safety: a place to discuss gear; a place to talk about crashes; a place to puzzle out the whys and sequences of unfortunate events.
-
@s-leon I like that, added a safety category and put it fairly high up so it isn’t buried.
If there are any really useful vids or images to quickly explain some basics that you can think of let me know and I’ll look at adding a sidebar like the leaderboard in WoS for quick access.

Can we get some hype for the new homepage banner ;)
"Borrowed" some footage from FM's YT channel. Clipped various vids for the different models and made sure it renders in browser (not on mobile though to avoid killing bandwidth).
Got a few things I'd like to add to it but for a start it's alright :) -

Ahhhh, hmmm. So, I live out in the sticks and have "good" internet but "mega slow" by most modern standards. I'm 100% cellular data at ~20Mbps down.
Why do I mention it? That banner is kinda painful on site performance for me??
- When I first visited the site today, I saw a funny static image that had nothing to do with OneWheels. Just a pitched road with partial image of a car (tires) and a curb. I wondered about it ... but clicked through to read posts.
- On seeing this post, I went back to the home page and let it load. Ah, yes -- very fun to watch.
- But then I tried to click on "something else" to continue reading recent threads and the homepage was stuck. It took a rather long time for my browser to respond. Ummmm, I think I'm gonna blame that delay on the video banner?
Very cool to watch ... but .... well ... I'll have to see how this plays out for others and even for myself once my browser adjusts to the update??
Edited to add: Sorry for being a stick in the mud ...
-
@horseplay i don't see anything. just a static banner.
-
Bottoms D:
Lemme try making it much easier to load, otherwise I'll remove it.@NotSure What browser was this, it renders with HTML5 so should have autoplayed.
-
-
@lia chrome
not in sources either
-
Made it much smaller, does that work better or shall I remove it till I find a better way to have it display?

oh i know why! its not on ur 'home' page but rather ../categories
yes nice banner lol.
-
@horseplay Sorry about that, it must have rendered fine for me because I had it cached from viewing it a few times in testing. Was way too HD for it's needs.
@NotSure I have it showing on categories but also when landing on owforum.co.uk.
Glad it's looks nice :)

YOUTUBE EMBEDS WORK NOW :D :D :D :D
Simply copy the YT URL into the post and it will embed the video in it's place.
Videos will also play in the embed rather than redirect off platform so you don't need to faff around with tabs.Example below :)
-
@lia example test
" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="
