XR badgersense (Where to buy!?)
-
@s-leon No need, I've got a 3D printer!
-
@s-leon
Yo!I'll take you up on your offer if it still stands! I can cover shipping no problem

@loaffette -- Loaning you the BadgerSense will be a process. Unfortunately the Badger website now redirects to TheFloatLife website. Luckily, I anticipated that that could happen and copied the BadgerSense instructions last week.
Let's communicate through the OWForum message avenue. Edit: I sent an email.Again, the reason I am willing to do this is to try to guard against your getting hurt by nosediving from pushing your Onewheel too hard or too fast. Indeed, I will want the BadgerSense back. My experience is that after using the BadgerSense a while you will have developed a fair intuitive sense of the limits. Of course, when and if you cross the board's limits crash is sudden and unforgiving. This loan is for your Onewheel only -- do not let it out of your possession, and do not allow anyone else to put it on their Onewheel... And please, do NOT scam me here -- I am seventy years old next week, and I am just trying to help you avoid injury.
-
@s-leon Understood.
Won't let anyone else use it or really touch it, and the system won't leave the Onewheel until I send it back.Also, happy early birthday!

Yesterday I got an email that LOAFFETTE received the BadgerSense, installed it, and was taking it out for a test ride. Included in the email was a photo of the LED strip mounted on the XR rail, all lit up blue signifying a full battery.
-
@s-leon It's on, and it works!
I've noticed that I've started riding a lot more confidently with the Badgersense on. I'm testing out different things and watching the output of the device when riding around at night. I notice that the motor actually approaches nose-dive when you push hard on the footpad when starting from standing still, as half of the green LEDs turn red, then slowly return to green, then to blue.
I find that I actually don't push too hard on the board, though I want to see where I get pushback relative to how close I am to nose-dive according to the badgersense.
Most of this testing is done at night so there are less people outside.
Installation was..
Terrifying.
I actually thought I was going to have to look into adding extra wire length or having to ride without the wire guard but I got it figured out! Did find out that one of my screw holes at the front side of the board closest to the motor is possibly stripped. I will look into re-tapping the screw hole for now, as Varial rails are +$500, which is super expensive.Like
I'm probably going to have to work a summer job to get those, or at least win the lottery or sell a kidney.
(There is a sale on the lifted tail rails on Float Life but I'm really looking for front and back clearance, not only back clearance.)I'll report back later with my findings when riding around for a bit. I'll have time off this weekend to test out the onewheel and badgersense.
Also, I noticed when I was installing the Badgersense system but all of the electronic parts were warped. The strip is pretty curved up and the box that goes near the motor had a weird warped edge. I think I may look into also 3D printing a case or guard for those if that poses a problem. I think it may have gotten rapidly heated then cooled during shipping.
Again, thank you to S.Leon for the set! I'll send him a generous amount of clips for the LED strip when I send it back!

@loaffette -- I agree, the BadgerSense inspires Onewheeling confidence because it shows you visibly when you are drawing hard on the battery.
Note, though, that it sometimes gives false readings: Slowing to traverse root ridged pavement I have seen it go full RED on more than one occasion -- when I've Onewheeled across those bumps hundreds of times before and since with no problems, ever. -
@loaffette -- As for the warped LED strip and the slightly malformed power box -- those were like that when I had them; it does not affect performance.
Again half RED is safe, it's full RED to avoid.
And the blue/yellow/red which shows at slow speeds is battery percentage. The single white, hard-to-read LED is speed. -
@loaffette -- A BadgerSense with BadgerSight was just listed for $250, on Facebook, in the NO B.S. ONEWHEEL PARTS & Board sales group. Today, Monday, February 20th 2023.
EDIT: I did not want this BadgerSense to get away, so I bought it. Now, @LOAFFETTE , sometime within the next year if you want you can purchase from me the one in your possession... Or, the guy tells me that he has another one also for sale -- I can put you in touch with him if you like.
EDIT, again: Well known Nico Aleman also posted in the comments under the listing that he has two BadgerSense (and likely BadgerSights) for sale.
-
@s-leon Going to probably see if I can
temporarily stealborrow a friends hairdryer and find something flat and heavy to try and level the LED strip back out. I have a working design now, but I can only use one with the current curvature of the strip -
@s-leon I may purchase the one you gave me later on,
and give me his contact info, I wanna see if he's got a BaderSight he'll sell me as well. -
@loaffette -- Try Nico Aleman for a BadgerSight, or the whole package of BadgerSense with BadgerSight. The other guy wrote me that the BadgerSense he has left is without a BadgerSight. Or, maybe ask me about the one I have coming.
-
@s-leon I'm attempting to join the FB group and I hope to find the Nico guy in there, since searching the name in FB just brings up about.. 200 Nico Aleman's
How much are you willing to sell the badgersight and the badger sense for?
-
@loaffette -- The BadgerSense and BadgerSight would go to you for what I paid for them this week, plus shipping. So, that's the BadgerSense already in your possession, and the BadgerSight which is still in transit on its way to me. And if you want to trade LED strips in the deal, I am open to the idea.
And while you are welcome to borrow, free of charge, the BadgerSense until next February and then return it -- or purchase and pay for it -- any time between now and then, I will not be sending the BadgerSight until a deal is made and payment is received. Fair enough?
Oh yes. And you are welcome to get either or both from someone other than me. Nico Aleman is a terrific Onewheel rider, and a respected educational voice on Facebook. The reason he has one or more BadgerSense and/or BadgerSights to sell is that he rides VESC now. -- In its app VESC has its own measure of battery draw.
-
@s-leon sounds fair! I'll look into the finances for it, though for now it won't be fiesable

Ever since you mentioned it here my request been pending [again(?)]. Out of ~dozens useful OW related groups, the one that I think I've tried to apply ever before. I don't read from their short rules what I'm wrong about.

Received the new LED strip and the badgersigth from Leon today! Figured out pairing two wireless adapter thing to board, and now I'm cooking with gas!
The post office closed eaerlier than expected so I'll have to ship the old LED strip, rail clips and MAYBE a little trinket for Leon :)
Mounted the badgersight on my helmet, near the bottom

Left for vacation on monday, came back Friday to a badgersense that wouldn't charge or turn on..
Well, fun.
I'm assuming that the battery either just needs a full charge, or needs replacing. I have spare batteries on hand that I can replace the old one with. I was told by someone in DFW who uses a Badgersight that the batteries are apparently pretty cheap and he's had to replace his twice on his own.Will plug it in and leave it charging for a while, will report back.

@loaffette Nice one getting it back up and running. Sleepy batteries are the worst lol.
