Onewheel XR Bearing Seal
-
So, I've got access to a 3D printer, and I was thinking of printing out a bearing seal. I was curious if it would work or if I was going to need to buy one for it to actually work.

@loaffette Not sure about a replacement seal but a cover would likely work. Badgerwheel did a cover to protect the bearings which people are happy with so should be possible that way :)

Most of the "bearing seals" that are being sold now are just 3d printed covers, that cover the exterior seal and bearing race...
The earlier versions of badger seals, used an actual bearing seal/cup from SKF, and then some 3d printed pieces. That you needed to put onto/around the axle, and is tensioned with a spring to the axle; unlike the "no disassembly required" ones now. You'd fill this with grease, and it'd keep the cup against the race and seal. IMO it's a better design as the grease stays cleaner.

Nothing looks better (nor presumably work better) than @Lemur's actual oil-seal inlaid into his GTXR conversion end plate >in THIS topic<!
That been said - if one is not necessarily dirt-surfing or enjoying salty beach rides - 3D-printed stuff likely will do a thing or two better in maintaining than no cover at all.
