LEDs probably deserve their own thread... Hmmm?
A wearable LED message board for my back is on my wish list -- so I can entertain the traffic behind me with:
Going deaf here, you too?
Not quite deaf.
Your kind words are being kidnapped by the wind.
Hey! I can't read your lips!
Say it again, Sam...
Garble... garble... garble...
Drowning in a flood of tinnitus!!!
I read SO much better than I hear.
More deaf than not.
Get closer... I am close to deaf.
I hear about as well as you will at this age.
All ears??? Not me!
What??? Huh??? ...Hard-of-hearing!!!
Just nodding and smiling here...
@s-leon These are genuinely so funny.
I might have to borrow some since I can barely hear a thing with the helmet on.
@s-leon I may actually incorporate this into it's own thing when I get the time
I would see how I would pull it off but I think it would be funny to have!
@s-leon I think I could pull something like this off :) want me to try and put something together for you?
@cheppy44 -- Yes! Indeed, I would love to flash the messages above! Thanks for offering. I am looking forward to what you can come up with.
@s-leon aftersome investigation I found a flexible led panel you could just plug into a battery bank and control the words with an app! I'm not aware of how programmable it is, but it seems like a decent option. And more waterproof that I could probably make it. The listing has no reviews or anything sadly, so no way to say if it is actually any good or not.
I was originally looking at something similar to this led panel, but it would still need all sorts of other stuff like a controller and a way to mount it to make it usable for you.
@cheppy44 -- I will try it! -- Thank you!
@cheppy44 Imagine putting this on a fender lol
@cheppy44 ooh, i like that second panel a lot. it really WOULD be cool as a fender cover (fender cozy?) haha.
@cheppy44 -- Well, I received the 14x64 dot LED banner, and I like it quite a bit -- sharp and clear. Using their text feature only eight characters at a time fit across the stretch -- so I adapted my messages. There is a possibility of creating the letter characters in graffiti mode so that twelve characters might fit, but that will take playing with it. Largely I will be using the red-flashing banner on my back for added visibility and safety as I ride my electric bicycle on rural roads with rural traffic to the Greenway to then ride my Onewheel. My battery powered Zippo hand-warmer works great for hours as the USB powerpack -- the bulkier 150 watt EGO power station on USB works for a minute or two then shuts off, maybe because the LED banner does not continually draw enough power to keep it on. Photos of the banner in action are yet to come.
@s-leon it may be possible to control the screen with an external controller to get text to scroll on it. That solution would be much more technical. Hopefully the app is not too bad.
@cheppy44 -- With the app a rolling scroll is possible from left or right, up or down. There are also transitions like dribbling in fast or slow, faux laser dynamic, and different colors. Within the app your own creativity can make anything in the 14x64 dot array and then animate it by creating the next screen(s). There are also stock displays and animations to choose from.
@s-leon very cool! hope it works out for you :)
