      Hey everyone,

I’m having some trouble with my Onewheel XR+ and could really use some advice. Here’s what’s happening:

After fully charging the battery to 100%, the left sensor on the footpad doesn’t respond. I’ve even swapped it out with a new footpad, but the issue persists. I have to wait a few hours before the board responds and I can ride again.

If I stop somewhere mid-ride, the board won’t accelerate again until I wait for a while for the sensor to respond.

Another issue has started recently: when the battery drops to 88%, it starts buzzing and says it needs a charge, showing that the battery is empty. Super weird!

I contacted Onewheel in the U.S. and sent them the diagnostics, but they replied that everything looks fine, except for a footpad attempt shown in the report.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Attaching the diagnostics screenshot for reference.

Thanks in advance for any help!!OneWheel.jpg

That's really weird! Hopefully we ca get to the bottom of it.
Does the footpad do this indoors where it's warmer? A lot of footpads seem to have an issue where if they're cold they are almost unresponsive. My GT does this from time to time and it's pretty frustrating.

Regarding the battery it may be degraded judging by only 12% being available. Have you ever left it at full battery or on charge for long periods like weeks/months?

          Thanks for the reply!

The footpad issue happens every time, regardless of the temperature. Where I keep the board, it’s never below 21°C, so I don’t think the cold is the issue here.

As for the battery, I’ve never left it plugged in for more than 24 hours. I thought it might need a rebalance, so I left it charging for 24 hours yesterday, but even after 3 hours of waiting today, the footpad still isn’t responding. I think it might take a few more hours before I can ride again.

Any other ideas or suggestions? It’s pretty frustrating at this point!

@rafal_sommerfeld In that case I can only assume one of the pins has a dodgy solder joint on that connector (board side). I was of the understanding FM fixed this issue on 4210+ boards but maybe they're still susceptible to those pins going bad and being inconsistent. It'll need a re-solder job if it's cracked or a bodge wire if it's completely torn the trace which is less likely as it at least works sometimes.

Only way to tell this is voiding the warranty and opening the lid which can be extremely fiddly due to the adhesive gaskets.

Battery wise that sort of drop in performance wouldn't usually be a balance thing. To be that far out something else would have to be very wrong.

Do you know anyone in some local ride groups that has spares to test with?

@lia Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone locally with spare parts to test with. I’ve already called a few shops around here, but they told me they don’t deal with XR’s anymore due to the difficulty in getting parts.

I’m not too worried about the warranty since it’s no longer valid. Do you happen to know anyone who could do a re-solder job? I’m based in Southampton but don’t mind driving to drop off the Onewheel if needed.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated!

@rafal_sommerfeld There was Stoke Solutions but they seem to be a bit snowed under atm

I'm not sure if Ride and Glide offer any sort of repair for Onewheels but they do sell them so maybe they could have a look.

                  @lia Thank You !
Yeah, I spoke with Ride and Glide, but unfortunately, they don't deal with them anymore.

I will try Stoke Solutions maybe in a couple of weeks; as you said, they are currently unavailable.

                  Thank you for your help!

@rafal_sommerfeld You're welcome, hopefully they get back to you with good news :)

I would offer to take a look myself but I'm not really in a position to handle repairs right now and kinda avoiding giving out my address to people 😅 Shame we're not closer as I could have a look on a group ride or something. Wouldn't be the first time the soldering iron came out on one.

@lia I totally understand! No worries about the address. I wouldn’t mind meeting up at a restaurant or coffee shop near your place, or I could even leave the board with you if that works better. Maybe we could chat somewhere privately, like Messenger or something, to sort out the details. And of course, I understand there’ll be a cost for the repair.

Let me know if that sounds good to you!
