Badger Bumper trouble
-
TL;DR: I'm going to let TFL know that I had a problem with their mounting system for the bumpers, and I'm going to try and order new bumpers ASAP (Or hope that TFL sends me new a new bracket)
So, what the hell happened?!
Well, I've had a screw break in the bracket on my Badgerbumpers, leaving a full install on the badgerbumpers to be impossible.
The badgerebumper is installed using these brackets that are provided by TFL to replace the front two screws that get damaged during riding. This is a good solution, however it makes install cumbersome and I've been having problems with the front left (looking at the board's bottom side, the front facing away from you) with screwing screws in. The right side was fine, however the lift side just wouldn't let up.
So today my badgersense was acting up, and I opened my onewheel up to make sure that everything was plugged in. It seemed fine, and the badgersense started operating like normal. I go to close the onewheel up and I start putting on the front bumper.
Then, this happens
That, is part of the screw stuck in the braket. Here's the rest of the screw
Also, the back screw threads on my rails are COMPLETELY stripped out.
Don't know how it happened, but I take responsibility. So, what are you doing now?
1: TFL has been contacted about the bracket, and I just let them know. Not asking for new parts or anything
2: New rails (thunderails) are going to be ordered. A familiy member of mine is going to order them and I will pay them back ASAP through venmo/Zelle
3: superglue
The plan is that I'm going to superglue the back of the front bumpers on with the smallest amount of superglue possible. Is this stupid? Yes.
Do I have a choice? Probably not. I have other things to do today, and this can't be one of them. I'm going to carve out a notch on the side of the bumpers that is big enough for a flat-head to fit in. when I take the bumpers out, I'm going to seperate the bumper from the glue by hammering a flat-head in between the rail and the bumper, forcing the two to seperate. When life give you lemons, you make lemonade
You also tell life to go shove it -
@loaffette Fingers crossed you can get hooked up with a replacement.
TFL are usually pretty cool about these things :3 -
@loaffette so note:
The Thunder Rails from Fungineers apparently have crazy shipping timesI may look at varials or see if someone local in DFW has old rails that they don't want anymore.
For now, I'm going to buy thread repair and probably wait to buy new rails since the price is mental -
@loaffette if you have a set of thread taps, you can re-tap the thread on the rails to the next size up. Does require tracking a larger screw but can get you out of trouble till the new rails show up. Or another option if you know a shop, to weld up the original hole, re-drill and tap it back to original.

@stinkyface I may get a different product but sadly I don't have welding equipment, and I don't know how to weld
