Most of the "bearing seals" that are being sold now are just 3d printed covers, that cover the exterior seal and bearing race...
The earlier versions of badger seals, used an actual bearing seal/cup from SKF, and then some 3d printed pieces. That you needed to put onto/around the axle, and is tensioned with a spring to the axle; unlike the "no disassembly required" ones now. You'd fill this with grease, and it'd keep the cup against the race and seal. IMO it's a better design as the grease stays cleaner.
