Battery box and flight friendly battery for XR
-
Hey guys,
You know what I have seen from the GT (which if I am not wrong it is the same in the Pint, maybe not), is that you are able to remove the footpad, and if you want, remove the controller box, without the need of removing the box from the rails. I am not sure if it is possible with the battery box in the GT.
I was wondering, if there could be a way to do the same for the XR, why not for the controller box for sure, but mostly for the battery box to be able to access for removing/changing the battery.
I do travel from time to time, and I started thinking about the viability of doing with a XR, and I know is not possible (I know all the regulations/laws about it.So, I have seen the video, and absolutely love it:
(flying on a onewheel)
The idea of subdividing the battery in 4 chunks (of less of 100 Wh) to comply with the rules is just brilliant. So even though it is a 12s3p (4x 3s3p)
Is easy to make one, 15s2p (3x4s2p + 1x3s2p) -vanilla XR-, or 20s2p (4x 5s2p) -for Vesc'ed one-.So I saw this video of the making:
(battery making)
And then as the model of the battery case a re in thingiverse I tried that, to see if fits inside the XR battery box, and with some modifications (in the top/bottom covers of each mini batteries cases) it does.
Obviosly is not a battery intended of improving range, but I thikn that for travelling is just the way to go.
I have vanilla and extended battery stl for the XR, if you wanna play with it, and doing a model of the mini battery cases should be fairly easy for any CAD designer.
Unfortunatelly, I have no battery build knowledge/CAD skills whatsoever, nor 3d printer (but I think is my next investment), but I find it very nice as an improvement idea.
What do you think? Maybe is just stupid.
Cheers

@ed_co yup i saw that video. id like to travel and onewheel while there. i just don't see many rental outfitters in tourist areas investing a lot into onewheels for the rental opportunity. its a niche pursuit for sure. perhaps national outfitters that lease them to local rental outfits?? thats an interesting notion but the obvious alternative is bringing a ow with you.
i have always thought the Pint would have been a wild success if it was the first or only onewheel to accept extensible charge options. a vnr friendly onewheel of sorts. it goes slower, its smaller, it has a stock range of 4-5 miles. it can't really compete with the other models, but its FAA TSA approved for the travel industry, and bc the range is extensible, it effectively has unlimited range... it fucking markets itself imo! everyone would have one! but what do i know, right? i didnt go to stanford.
