@loaffette The front light bar is just a constant headlight, not rgb, the rear is rgb and uses a Adruino Nano for different light patterns.
The front led strips canme from a dollar store much like the ones on Amazon, each pair of light strips run on 3v and are quite bright.
So you get 2 headlight strips and four cheap AAA cells from one wall switch light.

        @lemur nice
How far do the diodes throw the light? (Basically, could I use with on a street without a handheld light or would I still need one?)

113 volts?! I could lick that!

@loaffette They're bright but doesn't thow a beam very far, I still use a helmet mounted bicycle headlight when I ride at night.

@lemur did you buy the aluminum plate that mounts to the controller lid precut and ready to go or did.ypu have to DIY it to fit everything properly?

I had to scratch my original build idea and I am gonna have to go back to using my spare xr controller box so I am kind of curious. I know there are mounting plates that are sold for the thor300 and a few other escs but am curious as to where you got yours at since there aren't too many articles about using the thor300 inside the stock box

@kusosan I made mine, just a simple 1/8 sheet . You can mount directly to the thin aluminum lid , but I decided to use a plate to stiffen the lid and also so I can use counter sink screws to mount the Thor.

@lemur did you use thermal paste or a pad? I did mine very similar to yours and I used a pad but it wasn't thick enough so I doubled it up which I know isn't the best method to do but I'm curious too what you did and what are your temps so far? I live in hot South Florida and my Thor got up to 46c when I was doing some off road with a few little hills. I know a lot of videos have shown people climbing some crazy hills and it didn't even break 40c so I'm just trying to see if I need to figure a different method for mounting or a better thermal pad

@kusosan I used no paste or pad at first, then I tried thermal paste, but there was no difference in max temp. although I live in the the cool Pacific northwest.

@lemur I am having a bit of an issue with the LEDs. I went with avasparks Laserbeam LED and the front one works perfect but the rear ones do not listen to any commands from led control on refloat on the VESC app and they just come on or change colors as they please.
I even tried just a basic 12v RGB strip and it still does the same thing. It's got 26 diodes but if I put 26 in refloat they don't light up. I put in like half of that amount and it gets like 20 of the diodes to light up. Very strange behavior. Did you have any trouble getting the rear ones to work?

I contacted fungineer support and they told me that the rear led has a different pinout but according to their own diagram each LED connection is the exact same.

@kusosan I never used the Thor 300 rgb light control, as there seems to be a lot of confusion and wiring issues.
Instead I used buck converters from the aux, ardruino nano for rear lights and white led strips for front lights. That system has been working well so I didn't feel the need to change it. There's a picture of my Thor300/XR set up earier in this post.
I'm no longer running a Thor and have moved over to Ennoid MK8 vesc now.

@lemur I appreciate the reply. I was able to get the light situation worked out.

What was the reasoning behind switching to the MK8? I am just curious as the main reason I went with the Thor, despite reports of caps blowing, was due to the amazing thermal performance as I live in hot tropics and it’s get hot in the summer and also the easy LED control without having to do step downs or conversions and extra hardware.

@kusosan I switched to the Mk8 because I'm running 27s now and 27s because Onewheel GTS chargers are perfect for this application.
