@notsure You can't! Some custom setting is fairly similar to Mission but there is more surging. Also changing the nose-angle helps to ride level until PB but at low speeds, when crawling through some technical trail, the nose will only rise after accellerating so nose clearance remains a problem. A tiltkit is the only way to keep Mission, ride switch, clear terrain etc but it's a pretty intensive mod.

RE: DIY W Rails
@biell I understand. It sucks to make compromises sometimes. I got fed up with that hence mostly ride vesc now. Except when wet/rain, then i grab the over-badgered XR. But also working on getting the vesc winterproof which possibly will make FM totally obsolete.
Just make sure you keep an eye on that capacitor closest to the handle. Also make some testrides now and monitor/screenshot the controller temperatures.
After the mod make the same rides again under similar circumstances and compare the temperatures to see if there's significant (5+ degC) difference. Thicker thermal pads reduce transfer dramatically. I wish you all the luck and hope this will make your board ride amazing again! -
RE: DIY W Rails
@biell Sorry have not been here often lately, life got demanding;)
Tbh nose-low is a pretty good thing on wtf's. I cannot imagine using a tiltkit on them since i ride pushback+ all the time and having my board back on straight rails temporarily last week literally killed my legs on my commute fighting PB. After work i had to swap around rails from 3 boards to get WTF's back on it.
Downside of riding PB is there is no 2nd PB to prevent you from eating it. This is a big issue cause i ride vesc mostly (27-30mph) and when going back to Wtf XR sometimes im constantly on the edge of nosediving.Edit: on a recent reddit post someone had an img of a 4212XR. Looks like the capacitors are different compared to pre 4209? Installing a tiltkit could be better on those..

RE: What do people in your life think about your Onewheel(s)?
People think im the village idiot. But i dont care what people think as most of em are envious fools that forgot they're alive. Even doubt if all have a soul to start with.

RE: VESC configuration, what is your ideal VESC budget/configuration with BOM?
@notsure lol that's what i thought too. But i miss the lights for quick rides where i just need to be seen by other traffic.

RE: VESC configuration, what is your ideal VESC budget/configuration with BOM?
@notsure Regular vesc, load newest 5.3 firmware, upload an XML, run motor wizard, adjust couple parameters, go.
I still don't have lights, don't know if the rEscue will fit.

RE: VESC configuration, what is your ideal VESC budget/configuration with BOM?
@ed_co For starters my can-IC died. Why? This should not be easy to mess up. Flux on discord messed up 4 of them until he found out it was a faulty BT module.
Soon we will start a guinea-pig offensive on Field weakening. That's right; pad up, go out and take it like a champ for the team. So not sure what this will do to the focer.
Note for the ones not aware: Field weakening uses the back-EMF of the motor to overclock the rpm of the hub. Today i tested it without load @ 85% max dutycycle.
Without it the board reaches 48kph (i have done 46.8 while riding and hit pushback there at 85% dutycycle).
Using field weakening the board reaches 64kph at same dutycycle!!Also im not a big fan of the jst-ph connectors. The plugs become lame after some unplug/replugs and they hang upside-down so...
Soon i will try rEscue. Provided i can make it fit, also not known if this will mess with the focer.
BMS: It is important this thing can at least show us cell balance status and pack temperature. But who will make a usable one?
Battery: will the vesc really protect pack as setup? How long will it last until cells start to degrade?
Hub: How long will the hypercore be able to take the vesc-style control?
All together as a system any of these components can degrade it instantly. There is zero fail-safe and coasting is no option so...time will tell.
The boxes..they will improve as people test different materials. Sometime soon we might find a usable filament. Im not into this so will consume once it's out there.

RE: VESC configuration, what is your ideal VESC budget/configuration with BOM?
@lemur The newest fw is awesome. Still got a test file with the yaw based turntilt but as rain continues can't test it. I honestly do like a loose board that makes the rider work a bit too;) so not sure if i will use that option. Opening my board is more hardware related atm, getting the components to work reliable and figure ways to make the unit as robust as possible.
I said it before: we still need to find out how long/well a (properly) assembled and configured Vesc board will hold. Basically we have no MTBF yet.. -
RE: VESC configuration, what is your ideal VESC budget/configuration with BOM?
@notsure
To start with i have been testing Surf's unreleased firmwares for over a year now. So lots of times it would be too much to handle for the board integrity or components as i pushed it to limits and had interesting findings to tweak. Atm the newest fw works awesome but now it's more about hardware configuration, limitations and fitment.
Now the lfoc3 canbus ic died. Not certain the ennoid bms killed it or not. If so, we're looking at trouble when the TORque packs ship out cause they all will work with the ennoid.
I might receive an 84v capable rEscue soon, so then it's looking at how to fit this in the box and make it work over canbus along with the bms....continuous wip. -
RE: VESC configuration, what is your ideal VESC budget/configuration with BOM?
@notsure lol even when pnp vesc is a fact it will be far from trouble free. Sooo much work to be done. I simply can't waterproof my board cause i gotta open it up all the time for all kinds of reasons. Failing components being just a part of it.

RE: XR Error 16 (repaired)
@swinefeaster Your issue sounds different, more random. Mine was absolutely a controller logic counting the used Wh and throwing the error when the logical amount was used up.
The chip install might have gone bad, especially when your charging is also acting up. The rest is said by Lia.
-
RE: Hacks & Odds
@s-leon Yes, the idea is to use the bms charge-only anyway. The max battery amps for discharge are set in the vesc. I just like to see my cell balance status and battery temperature before/during/after ride on an experimental product. The rest of the board parameters are visible in the vesctool app.
External balancing would be great but a bit of a hassle to get 21 balance leads outside the battery box while still keeping it water-resistant.
-
RE: Hacks & Odds
@s-leon Love it. But the Ennoid bms is acting up, it's actually not suitable i think. And the maker is a dick.
Will try to make a writeup when i have some time. Was/am planning on documenting a clean build.

RE: Hacks & Odds
@s-leon 3206. Worked great always, just parted the board out. Battery box and hub is on the vesc now, cb+ and bumpers sold. Just need to get this controller a new home.
-
RE: Hacks & Odds
@s-leon Off topic: You have an idea what a plus controller sells for nowadays? Got one, need buyer;)

RE: Vesc specific batteries
Managed to dremel out the bottom material of the + battery box and squeezed the 20s2p in there. It's snug like a cbxr in an XR box but bolted it down without using clamps like some people seemingly needed to do with cbxr😳. My over-expensive Ennoid bms is TARFU. Dunno what happened so filled the void with some foam to keep the wiring from rattling
The bottom obviously lost stiffness so added some carbonfiber (and some kevlar under it) to the bottom and treated the wheelside with some epoxy. The ole + box looks like new, and i have the only (bottom) bulletproof OW battery box in the world now. Nothing can punch thru this🤣
-
RE: GTXR conversion- version 2
@lemur
Thanks. Have no FB so that's..that;)
I actually dremeled out the bottom grid off the + box and the battery fits in it. Snug but can close the lid without using clamps lol. Re-inforced the bottom outside with carbonfiber to make up for loss of stiffness. This means i part out the + and sell the controller and CB+ pack.

RE: GTXR conversion- version 2
@lemur off topic: you seem to be close to sources parting out boards...im desperate for an XR battery box as printed ones are crapping out. Any chance you (or others) can help out?

RE: Vesc specific batteries
@notsure I will get it once it hits these shores. At least i understand now what the "omg, that torque.." thing is about when xr riders get a gt. But the limitations on self repair, ridiculous added costs to accommodate a different tire, simply depending on FM when it fails...gives me the creeps. Also i doubt that the ride quality will be superior than my current setup. Only thing would be the reliability/durability of the components as on the vesc side this has not been tested for an extended time but this is same for GT.
If it's not a big improvement over vesc setup can always sell gt and get an Inmotion v11 or something as i do plan on giving those another chance.
