Thunder Rail install and chaos
-
Well, here we go!
Some backstory before we start: My old XR rails were pretty thrashed. They had scratches, bumps and a nasty case of very stripped threads. My front bumper was literally being held on by the foot pad screws at the front and one front bracket screw. The threads were stripped and the rails were sharp to the touch in some places. I decided that I would like to idiot and future proof the onewheel by buying the rails. Was going to get thunder rails initially but A: My bank thought my debit card was stolen and canceled it when I tried to buy them, and I later learned that Thunder Rails take over 30 days to ship. No joke. It's insane. So, I decided to save up for Varials, until discord user !!/dev/null offered a pair that he wasn't using to me. After some back and fourth, I snagged them for around $320 USD. Paid through venmo, and arrived Thursday. Picked them up at noon the next day and got to work.
Out of the box...
Some side-view pictures, need to figure out how I'm going to replicate the CAD model of these and get that angle right...
Step One: Obtain
victimOnewheelHere's a beaten and pretty abused XR. Turn 'er off and pray to the Lord that you can get 'er back together in one piece and working.
Step Two: Remove Front footpad and bumpers
Off with it's hea- I mean bumpers and footpad.
This isn't the french revolution LOAF, jeez.I have the badgersense junk all in there so it's a bit messy with the cables. I'd reccomend unplugging your footpad entirely since it will get in the way.
Beheaded- I mean footpad-less and bumper-less front XR.
Step Four: Remove back footpad and bumpers
The same stuff, just make sure you keep your screws together and organized. I like to actually partially put the screws in the holes the belong on each part since it means I don't mix up screws and sizes.
Also off topic, but I had a friend over from college who needed someone to take them to the airport next day, and I got minecraft running on their laptop, so they spent the entire time playing minecraft and raising an army of B I R D S.
Step Four: Remove Cable Clips
Please do this. It will make your life way easier when you start trying to figure out why your rails won't come off. Just remove them. Please.

Step Five: Remove Screws.
I should say, but at this point if you remove any more screws, your warranty is absolutely gonna be sent to the shadowrealm (Read as your warranty will be gone.)
Don't say I didn't warn ya.
So, there are screws under the "If removed Warranty void" stickers on the rails. Just peel the stickers off and you'll see 'em. Remove those, and set them off to the side. Then, undo your motor screws, and set those off to the side. I'd also recommend pulling off the little tabs on the side of your motor for later.
Pull your rails off CAREFULLY and then...
Step Six:
Naughty language warningPanic.Wait.. Oh God.. OH GOD! MY ONEWHEEL OH FUCK!
Yeah, take it in.
I posted this picture to my Snapchat story and about twelve people messaged me asking if my onewheel broke.
For those of you that don't know, Snapchat is a messaging app that was created to cause mass chaos and enjoyment.Step Seven: Put your rails on.
Ok, here comes the challenging part. Line your rails up with your front controller box. Make sure the big power/plug holes are on the front, not the back. Screw in that warranty screw, then put on your battery box. Add your other rails and repeat.
Step Eight: Line up the motor with the rails.
Line up the motor with one of the three sets of screw holes you want to put your motor at. Lower screw holes make your onewheel have higher clearance, but less stability. Middle is in-between, and the top make your onewheel lower but have better stability. I went for the top since going curbs is cool and stuff.
Get one side lined up, stick your HUB bolts in but crew them in with your fingers just in a LITTLE BIT (not all the way), then do the other side.
Step Nine: Done.
Congrats. IF your onewheel survived, congrats! Just make sure to adjust your IMU to make sure your angle is right on the onewheel.

@loaffette Addendum:
Bandgersense users, heads up, your badgersense LED strip won't fit, and your little weird block that goes on the motor axle is going to have excess cable. You will need the badgersight if you do not have a way to mount the LED strip. I will work on LED strip mounting solution later on.
